Alternative Therapies

A is for .....

Alternative Therapies | Acupuncture: An acupuncture therapist (punctures your skin) inserts a number of very fine needles into the skin. The needles are inserted at certain points on your body, these points are referred to as 'meridians'. This process aims to prevent or treat ill health, improve or maintain positive health. Acupuncture is considered to stimulate the body's own ability to heal and has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine acupunture for thousands of years.

Aromatherapy | Essential oils are used for massage by the aromatherapist. The 'blend' of oils can be mixed to suit the particular client, which is usually chosen for its fragrance, which in itself can be relaxing for the client. The essential oils are absorbed through the skin, therefore it important for a therapist to be trained in the potential side effects as well as the known benefits of each oil and the blends need to be in correct percentages. The oils do absorb through to the tissue and therefore into the bloodstream to circulate through the body.

Different oils are thought to act on the body in different ways, some are relaxing and calming others uplifting and energising.
