When we help others we also help ourselves. If everyone in the world believed and lived this way, what a wonderful world we would have. Thanks for spreading the word that helping others is the best thing we can do, not only for others, but also for ourselves.

Great topic and it's true! As someone who works at home a lot, I occasionally go days of seeing no other human beings. And from this I've decided to become a Meals on Wheels volunteer, because it will get me out one more day and also, I'll be seeing other people who need not just the food, but additional human contact.

Wonderful lens. Few people really understand that we are more than physical beings. Things like altruism absolutely have an impact on both mental and physical health.

It really is true. Giving back gives one a sense of pleasure no one else can replicate.

altruistic love can heal. was reading letters to Sam the other day... same stuff. the more you give out of charity, the more you get. its like creating scoops to have more. cool that you let the world know...

Great lens. Call it Karma or whatever you want. When you do good things for others, others do good things for you.

Who, better than a physician, to outline the benefits of giving back to those in need, 5* and lensrolled into Road to Self-improvement.

Thank you for this lens, I love it!
However, I would like to ask a sceptical question: Isn't there a second side to the coin? I think that efforts to make a difference can turn very frustrating, as usually the impact a single person can make is not strong. And I would assume that feelings of futility are not very health-promoting...?

I knew doing good deeds made me feel good, but I had no idea it might make me live longer, too! Another reason to keep it up. :-)

Thank you for pointing out the "science" of giving back! Now I have a place to send all the naysayers and humbugs to learn what we already know! 5 Stars!

How true this is. While writing our book designed to help others, we came in contact with so many people living with brain injury. Each story touched our heart, and we realized the book and support website would not be enough. We joined our state's Brain Injury Association as volunteers.
