A beautiful Moth!
This lens is to introduce a beautiful creature that unfortunately has a very short life span!
Also referred to as an Indian Moon Moth.
Also referred to as an Indian Moon Moth.
What is that?
At first glance!
While I was taking my camera for a walk, I notice an odd leaf along side the road.Turned out the be the underbelly of the Luna. The "eyes" on the wings are there to deter the enemies. With such a short life span, they need all the help to stay alive they can get!
So Little Time
I took this photo while camping at Kentuck Knob Campgrounds this past week.
The campground is located in Southwestern PA, at Ohiopyle, PA
These beautiful moths have a life span of only 7 days! They are very common, but since they only come out at night, not too many are seen. This little guy is approximately 4 - 5 inches wide.
In the northeastern part of the United States, the moths produce two generations each year. The first of these appear in April and May, and the second group can be seen approximately nine to eleven weeks later.

- Once, when my husband and I lived on a farm in Confluence, PA, he walked in the door, "wearing" a luna moth like a pin on his shirt. It had just landed there and stayed. And stayed. In fact, it stayed for well over an hour until he took it back outside and transferred it to a flower.

- Thanks Janelle. I thought since no one else had one on this creature, I'd put one up.
I have another in the works too! Hopefully I will have it up this week!
You & Joan are my inspirations!
