Random fun facts about Amalfi
- The first settlement on the Amalfi coast dates back to the first Century B.C.
- An official letter from the Pope Gregorio Magno, in 596 mentions the Amalfi's trades.
- As evidenced by underwater finds, it is believed that there was a wall structure on the seaside of Amalfi until the 14th century.
- It is also believed the compass was first invented and used by sailors from the Amalfi coast
- Some of the smaller islands, near Positano, called "Gallo Lungo", "La Rotonda" and "La Castelluccia", were described to Omero, in the Odyssey Poem, when Ulysse met the Syrens.The Amalfi coast was considered a maritime superpower from the 9th to the 12th centuries.
- In modern times, Amalfi is a popular tourist destinations. Tour books often recommend the spring or early fall as the best time to visit as the coast's single road is quite busy in summer (and prices are inflated), while much of the coast simply closes for winter

What's Stopping Me?
- First off, it is more than 24 hours of air travel to get to Italy
- It is winter now, so it is a bit cold and much of the roads would be closed.
- After research Amalfi I would still love to see it, but I think I would prefer a shorter visit. To tell the truth, I thought it was much warmer there until I just brought in the weather just above. Now I need to rethink it's spot on my bucket list.

- After you've had your coffee, catch a boat down to Sicily. I'll meet you there over a glass of Amaro Averna - that way both of us get to knock one item off our respective bucket lists
