Getting Started in Amateur Photography

What is amateur photography? The word amateur refers to a person that does something because they love doing it not because they have made a career out of it. Therefore, amateur photography would be when someone takes photographs for their personal enjoyment. If you are interested in becoming an amateur photographer then here are some tips that can help you get started. The first thing you need is a good camera. A good camera is one that you feel comfortable using so don't pick something someone else likes. Instead pick the one that is right for you. It can be a digital camera or one that uses film, it's your choice. However, digital cameras do seem to be taking the lead.

You need to take a close look at the features that the camera has. As your talents expand you may want to experiment with new things. So consider what you expect to be doing in a few years with your amateur photography and buy a camera with features that can help you get this far. You can upgrade later but you don't want to buy a new camera right away so get a good one from the start. Always protect your camera by keeping it in a case and making sure it stays clean and dry. Keep extra batteries available at all times so you will not be in the middle of the best shot of your life and lose it due to dead batteries.

Have you ever tired to figure out what an image in a photo was but couldn't because it was either to dark or to light to see. This is due to poor lighting. Having the right amount of light is necessary to have a good quality picture. Many people have a problem with their photos always being blurry. This is usually caused by not holding the camera still when taking the shot. It can be corrected by purchasing a lightweight camera and practice holding it firmly in both hands. Due to the fact that this is a big problem for many people, new cameras are being designed with features that can eliminate or at least help reduce blurry pictures.

Even an amateur photographer wants to take great photos. One way to do this is by learning how to position the image to enhance it instead of taking away from it. The wrong angle can ruin an otherwise perfect photo. You don't want the image to be to close, or to far away to see it clearly. Neither do you want it to be a bad angle that distorts the image. There is really only one way to learn the proper lighting and position along with all the other qualities it takes to become a great amateur photographer and that is practice. Go out in different weather conditions and different hours of the day and practice taking the same shot. Compare photos and you will soon start learning all the little secrets of amateur photography.
