French Tenor: Amaury Vassili

Amaury Vassili, the young French tenor, recently came to my attention due to his participation in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

He hails from Ile-de-France and at 21-years-old has been named the "world's youngest tenor". Having heard a number of his songs, for a guy so young, he does have an amazingly rich and powerful voice. Think Josh Groban and Pavarotti rolled into one and you have Amaury Vassili.

The plaudits continue to be bestowed upon this young man, and as one Amazon reviewer remarked: ...(you) hear the voice of an angel and witness the birth of a new star.

This page is a journey of discovery of this new star, and I hope you enjoy travelling along with me.

This is the song that Amaury Vassili sang at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. Entitled Sognu, it is recorded in the Corsican language, and is a powerful pop-opera crossover track. Although the song did not win the competition, this young man's voice has been one of the best ever heard at Eurovision.

Amaury Vassili: Endless Love

With Katherine Jenkins

I enjoy a romantic love song and very well remember the original of this one by two of Motown's biggest stars, Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. Here, Amaury Vassili is joined by the highly successful Welsh soprano for their rendition of Endless Love.

Amaury Vassili: Lucente Stella

Land of Hope and Glory

Being a Brit, I had not realised that one of England's most patriotic songs had been translated into another language. Written to the music of Elgar's Coronation Ode, Land of Hope and Glory is often considered as England's unofficial anthem. However, here is Amaury Vassili doing a wonderful job with the tune. This is Lucente Stella.

Probably one of my favourite songs, and one that I enjoy listening to by Jeff Buckley. Written by Leonard Cohen, Hallelujah has been recorded by a multitude of different artists, including this exceptional version by Amaury Vassili, which can be found on his first album, Vincero.
