The Amazing iPad

Getting the best from your iPad

Looking at what the iPad can do. I use it for watching movies, playing games, consuming all sorts of content. I also use it to create content and be productive using the various productivity applications that are available in the App Store.

I enjoy my iPad loads and I took it with me on a recent trip to Menorca. I could have taken the Macook but I left it at home to see how things would go with using just the iPad. It worked out pretty good apart form the crappy Wifi in the hotel. I made a video about my experiences and posted it on my YouTube channel.

Would love to get an iPad two but doubt if I will seeing as the iPad does what I want it to do. When I do get another I think I will likely get one with the 3G slot. Would just be handy to use without the Mifi. I like the Mifi but it is an extra gadget to carry and to keep charged.

Using Dragon Dictate for iPad

It is so much quicker to speak the text into the computer than it is to type it, even though I can type pretty quickly now. I have experimented with Dragon Dictation for the iPad, both at home and also in the street in a noisy environment and it passed with flying colours. The application being free is a big bonus to start with and the how well it converts the audio of my voice into text is really amazing. I fully expect to buy the full Mc version of the application at some point in time.

All you have to do is to press the record button. It doesn't record in as much as you can't play back what you have spoken or save it to have it converted later. What happens when you have said your piece is that the audio goes to the server to be converted. The amazing iPad doesn't have to have the computing power to be able to do the converting of the audio.

When it is given to you in text format you can highlight words that are incorrect and it will off a delete button or sometimes a different word. That works Ok and you can also get the keyboard up and do normal editing. I like to select the offending words or set of words the start typing to replace the words.

It is best to do some minimal editing so that you can keep the meaning of the sentence if there are wrong things in there at first as I have found that when I look at it later I have to wonder what were the actual words I used. Not much in the way of corrections have to be made usually though and it certainly is faster to work this way. I can knock out a 1000 word article very quickly indeed.

I n an earlier version it was crashing when I changed the rotation of the iPad but I just stopped moving the iPad during a session and problem solved. Seems to have improved in subsequent versions. I do do a copy all text and paste into Simple Note which has a word counter. Would be good to have that information in Dragon Dictation. That also gives me a back up copy of what I have done and I have needed it a couple of times.

When done I can get to drop box via Simple Note or Nebulous notes but I prefer to send out as an email so I can copy and paste into Scrivener on my Mac. Excellent application and a big thumbs up from me.

Aside Magazine for iPad

Amazing what can be done with HTML 5

Aside MagazineI checked out this magazine this morning and I was completely blown away by the stunning quality of it. the graphics are brilliant and the effects that have been achieved with HTML 5 are breath taking. I want to learn HTML5 now myself to make stuff like this.

There was a movie in it, sound you could listen to, pictures that zoomed up when you tapped on them, maps that has pictures attached to markers. The overall design of the text and images was brilliantly put together and I can't find enough superlatives to use to describe this Aside Magazine.

Have a look yourself - best to use on the iPad

I got a notification from the web site Graphics.com and I am so glad that I followed though on the link to look at it. I was able to install it on my Ipad really easy. there are guiding graphics to tell you where to click and how to do it. Once it is on it is like a standalone application and not at all like viewing a web page.

What can you do with the Amazing iPad

Productivity or entertainment?

The amazing iPad from Apple. is used in multifarious differing ways and that is what makes it so desirable to so many different types of people. You can select from thousands of apps to do all sorts of things that make the iPad such adaptable device.

Many people say about the iPad that it is so simple and easy to use that their granddad could use it. This assertion is all about someone being so technologically challenged but in any event being able to pick up an iPad and manipulate to do what ever they crave to do. Many times these sort of people are the ones that only do the elemental things with their computer, but that is not always the case. So we have people that just look at their email and do a bit of surfing, perhaps write a tiny document once in a while. The iPad is a great proposition for this group of people.

Then there is the other end of the gamut of the iPad customer that desires to use the iPad to do either specialist work or play with it and will hunt down all the apps that will do what they crave it to do. It could be for hooking a guitar or a keyboard and learning to play an instrument, or being able to extend what the instrument can do I terms of mixing the sounds with a mixer or adding a software wah wah or a reverb pedal. So that is the entertaining end of the range but then there is the projects that can be done, beginning with the presentation, database, spreadsheet and writing softwares that are a piece of the huge list of productivity applications.

One of the location that is popular for iPad users is to use while sitting on the sofa immersed in the TV. Very easy to go into the IMDB application and see information about the actor or actresses in the film you are viewing. Maybe there is a TV series on and you don't want to miss what is going on but you have to put the finishing touches to an report, or the last few formulas in a spreadsheet. The iPad is great for this kind of use.

The iPad also becomes a viewing apparatus for television, movies, video podcasts, it is really comfy to be sitting in bed watching the most recent movie that is being streamed in from your desktop computer using an program like Zumocast or Airvideo. If you get tired with the movie you can just give up on that and change to reading a web page instead. It is marvellous to have something that takes in so many hobbies rather than a device that only lets you read a book for example.

Games, of course are really hot on the iPad and there are lots of classes of difficulty in the assortment of games. You can have something that is not so stretching that you might play with while in the queue in the shop. On the other hand there are games that will have you entertained for hours at a time as you to complete all the levels. One game that is all the rage is the one with angry birds that you have to blast into constructions, very easy, another small game you have to land the aircraft on diverse airports and air strips without crashing them. That one starts elementary but before you know it has you shouting out for help.

I was looking for a Red Cross charity to support as they do such good work. Especially in the light of the earthquakes in Japan and New Zealand.

Child Aid works to alleviate poverty in some of the world's poorest communities by partnering with rural, mostly indigenous communities in Guatemala and helping them create sustainable educational programs for their children.

Using the iPad

Kensington 2nd Generation KeyFolio Bluetooth Keyboard Accessory Case for Apple iPad 2 2nd Generation WiFi / 3G Model 16GB, 32GB, 64GB NEWEST MODEL & for Apple iPad 1 OLDER ORGINAL MODEL
(Black)

When I am at my desk I have the iMac and Macbook Pro in front of me. I do my main stuff with the iMac and have the email and twitter running in the Macbook. So I don't get to use the iPad much when I am in the office. I am more likely to take the iPad to the sofa with me to look at during the advertising breaks or during the watching TV experience to add to it. For example I might look into IMDB to see what other movies that actor has been in when I am watching a movie.

When watching something like the Xfactor it can be hilarious to have Twitter running to see the funny and often rude comments people are making about the people in the show. I could also just be relaxing on the sofa and escaping the office. In which case I will be perhaps looking at emails or watching some video. I could even be doing some writing using Nebulous notes for a blog post of for an article.

My Absolute Favourite Amazing iPad App

This is a tough one! I love using quite a few good applications on the amazing iPad. Could it be the Dragon Dictation, or maybe Nebulous Notes, what about Bento, Art Studio is great when I am feeling artistic and creative. Then if I am just out to consume some information there is Flip that take your feeds in from Twitter and FaceBook and other places to create a very sexy looking magazine experience. The again there is World of Goo which has to be in the Top Ten of games, or there is the Words HD if you like to make the brain work a little and as I am trying to work out which is my favourite application on the amazing iPad I am getting more confused.

No - it is impossible to come up with a favourite unless I break it up into sections of interest. I will have to have a favourite game and a favourite text editor and so on. I think I need more time to decide which apps will make it into the best of the best for me.
