It's not how far they go...but what happens along the way!
The Amazing Race is a reality television game show in which teams race around the world in competition with other teams. Contestants strive to arrive first at the end of each leg of the race to avoid the possibility of elimination. Teams are progressively eliminated until three teams are left; at that point, the team which arrives first in the final leg is awarded a large cash grand prize. (read more)

Seasons of The Amazing Race
The Amazing Race (US)

- The Amazing Race 1
- Season 1 was not particularly a ratings success, since it premiered a week before the September 11 attacks. Immediately following 9/11, interest in foreign travel waned and viewership fell correspondingly. The show was further hindered by the lack of media coverage and promotion as networks focused on news stories and more patriotic programming.
- The Amazing Race 2
- The Amazing Race 2 was the second installment of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on March 11, 2002 and ended on May 15, 2002.
- The Amazing Race 3
- It premiered on October 2, 2002 and ended on December 18, 2002. In 2003, this installment of the race won the inaugural Primetime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Reality/Competition Program".
- The Amazing Race 4
- At the time the show was filmed and broadcast, same-sex marriage was not legally recognized anywhere in the United States. Reichen and Chip were never legally married under U.S. law, though they were married in a religious ceremony; CBS decided to honor their description of themselves as "married" for the purposes of the show.
- The Amazing Race 5
- After the anemic ratings for The Amazing Race 4, CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves doubted whether the series would be renewed for another season. After much deliberation, CBS officially ordered a fifth installment of the Race in September 2003. Some observers cited the series' recent Emmy win was responsible for its renewal. While CBS flirted with the idea of a fall premiere, it ultimately gave Season 5 a summer broadcast.
- The Amazing Race 6
- This season featured many Olympic themed challenges such as water polo, track and field, swimming, and archery. The race also visited past Olympic cities including Oslo, Stockholm, and Berlin. This was due to the fact that the race was filmed during the same time as the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
- The Amazing Race 7
- This was the first edition to not strictly circumnavigate the world (by crossing the International Date Line exactly once); once teams traveled as far east as India, they returned to the United States traveling westward through Europe and the Caribbean. However, the route does approach that of a great circle on the globe.
- The Amazing Race 8
- The Amazing Race 8 differed from previous installments of The Amazing Race in that instead of pairs of adults with a pre-existing relationship, this race featured families of four and allows the participation of minors as young as the age of 8. The Race returned to the original teams of two adults for The Amazing Race 9.
- The Amazing Race 9
- The Amazing Race isn't Tyler's only traveling claim to fame. In 2004, he walked the whole length of Japan to impress his Japanese girlfriend as well as made a documentary about the experience called Kintaro Walks Japan. By the end of the trip, he was often running into many locals who already knew him as "Kintaro" from the TV news.
- The Amazing Race 10
- The Amazing Race 10 spanned 40,000 miles and covered 4 continents and 13 countries, making this the season with the most number of countries visited. Amongst them, 6 were previously unvisited countries, including Mongolia, Kuwait, Mauritius, Madagascar, Finland and Ukraine. It was also the first season to (nearly) circumnavigate the globe in a generally westwardly fashion, crossing the Pacific Ocean in the first leg and crossing the Atlantic on the final leg.
- The Amazing Race: All-Stars
- On September 28, 2006 CBS ordered an eleventh season of The Amazing Race; in November 2006, the network officially acknowledged that an all-star edition was in production. Host Phil Keoghan was originally skeptical that an all-star edition was feasible. Over time, Keoghan felt that "as we got more and more really good teams, it (All-Stars) just seemed like it had to happen."
- The Amazing Race 12
- The Amazing Race 12 spanned 30,000 miles in 21 days, making it the shortest Amazing Race course since Season 8. The race covered 4 continents, visiting 10 countries, five of which were previously unvisited. The newly visited countries included Ireland, Burkina Faso, Lithuania, Croatia and Taiwan. Also, for the first time, the finish line was not in the contiguous United States.
- The Amazing Race 13
- Filming is expected to take place around April or May 2008. The 13th season has since been greenlit by CBS, but no word on when this season will air has been stated.
