Poutine Eating Competition

Long Over Due Update

Hey Squidoo Fans,

It's been a while and thanks to my Squidoo page and my persistence I was able to go head to head with some of the worlds best professional eaters, I have video but I'll have to post it later (it isn't pretty so I'll warn you now) I came in dead last and was actually the first one out of the competition, I was impressive from the start though, within the first 5 min I had already eaten about 3.5lbs of Poutine (Cheese Curds ,Gravy and Fries) I remember om noming away when I heard "He's Already eaten 7lbs" (The "He" they were referring to was Patrick Bertoletti http://bit.ly/bA59gB) at that point I was like "oh damn" and slowed down almost to the point where I was completely stuffed, I picked up the fork and tried to eat a couple bites but couldn't, it was kinda nauseating watching the rest go at it, I bowed out after the 5th minute and politely excused myself to run to the facilities

Big Thanks to Smokes Poutinerie and Major League Eating for giving me the opportunity to compete with these legends of Eating Competitions

In Canada Poutine is a Popular Side to Burgers

Which is why I'm entering a poutine eating contest!

Smoke's Poutinerie World Poutine Eating ChampionshipCanadians like their poutines, it's popular as a side or as it's own dish. We break down the poutine into 3 simple ingredients:

Fries
Gravy
Cheese Curds

When put together it creates this amazing medley of flavors. So here it is part of my latest adventure in eating, I've entered into a Poutine eating conest sponsored by the big guys Major League Eating, If chosen I will be going up against some of the big eaters in the Major League of eating I've added Smoke's Poutinerie to my Twitter page and I'm constantly sending messages to get the attention to get me in, will document more if I get in, meanwhile I created a Facebook group to also help me out:

My 3lb Burger Adventure

My 5 hour road trip in an attempt to eat a 3lb burger the fastest in the world

The 3lb Burger! On Saturday April 10th I set out to do the unthinkable, travel 5 hours to Clearfield, PA and eat a 3lb burger, why the hell would anyone travel that far to eat a burger you ask? Well in short, why the hell not? While doing some searching online for big burgers I came across Denny Beer Barrel (which from this point forward I'll refer to as DBB) DBB claimed to host the world's largest hamburger challenges and from the looks of the menu, the food didn't sound too bad either, and there it was, while looking through the list of the winners a man by the name of Furious Pete had claimed to have eaten this 3lb behemoth the fastest at 9 minutes and 2 seconds, I watched about 2 minutes of the youtube video of him eating it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPTF8zcea7k) and thought That's it I'm doing this too!

A week went by and all I could think about was burgers, I had a different burger each day for a whole week, I told an old friend that I wanted to break this mad mans record and immediately asked to see a link for DBB after sending him the link he got back to me, saying that I could probably do it and cited examples from way back of me crushing meals, at this point it only made sense to go find out for myself and he agreed to come with me the next day, we planned it out we'd leave at 9am drive the 5 hours stop at Grice's Gun Shop (10,000 Square feet of Guns! Pennsylvania's Largest) check out the crazyness the store had to offer and make it to DBB's just in time for dinner in theory it sounded epic too bad we didn't make it to Grice's (nest time for sure!)

9am had come and I had my passport the Civic gassed up and was ready to go, stopped by my buddies house and we were off to the USA, on the way he asked if I had eaten breakfast and told him I hadn't, he suggested to stretch the stomach for my big feat and I agreed, off to Tim Hortons and grabbed 2 sausage and egg sandwiches' on an English muffin, this should be ok to start, I knew I had granola bars for the trip I didn't wanna stuff myself after all, after driving for an hour we noticed we weren't anywhere close to where we wanted to be, in fact we were about 30 min off course, I had missed the exit and had been going the total opposite direction of where I wanted to be, oh damn! A classic mistake any one of my friends would say, but I've been lost in worst places and at far worse times so this wasn't so bad.

We made it to the Border around a little before noon, at this point I knew we were short on time to get to see the Gun shop, it was closing at 5 and we were about 4 and a half hours away, we pull up to the border patrol booth and after declaring our citizenship and handing the border official our passports the "Purpose of your visit?" question came up to which I replied "Going to Clearfield, PA to eat a 3lb burger" The official looked at me smiled and said "have a nice day" 2 hours later we pulled into a little town called Ellicottville and decided to stop and get our nutrients and grabbed a pint of Guiness, we were 2 hours from eating time and since I knew we weren't going to make it to the Gun shop might as well take in a little small town America, we finished the pint and we were on our way.

3 granola bars, a pint of Guiness and 2 bathroom breaks later we had arrived, there on the side of the road with nothing else around this Burger Playground per say DBB! a smile came over my face, like "I'm home", got out of the car did a little stretch and we were inside just after 5pm and just in time to beat the dinner rush (which was a good thing cause the place was packed after) We order the "
Big Ass Pint" each and I proudly say "I'm here for the Challenge" she smiles and says I'll be right back, the waitress comes back takes a picture and hands me a paper and pen and asks me to write down my name and home town a spot was left to fill in the time started but she told me to wait till I got the burger, She explains all the toppings the burger came with (Mayo, Ketchup, Mustard, Relish, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Banana Peppers and Cheese) and told me I was allowed to remove one, I said Banana Peppers while sipping our big ass pints we waited.

About 20 minutes later she comes out with this MASSIVE burger, takes my picture and tells me to write down the time 5:27pm, As soon as this thing landed in front of me I knew right there there was no way I would do this in 9 minutes, now that I think back I should have watched the whole video of mr Furious and his crazy crazy time, I had an hour and 30 minutes from the time I started, if completed I would get my name on the wall of fame, a tshirt a certificate and my burger paid for, about 40 minutes in and a little over half the burger eaten, I was stuffed, I couldn't do it anymore, I asked the waitress for a knife and fork to go at it slowly to which she replied "Hands Only" Houston we have a problem I thought. A couple bites later and an almost shade of blue on my face my friend had convinced me to throw in the towel, as he put it "You're already going to be farting all the way home, I don't need you farting and dying from a heart attack", "Fine" I replied "But you're driving back" and it was done the mission I drove 5 hours for just sitting there, "I'll be back" I said

I've set a date in August to finish this Burger not in 9 minutes but in the allotted time, I now have a game plan and a regiment of preparation planned out and will fill you in after I finish it, look out for it again, for now I'll be laying low on the bad food for a little while, and treat myself and you all with another adventure soon.
