The mighty Amazon floods the low lying forest annually. In it's wake are left small pools that are the basis of a particular aquarium biotope.

Acidic Amazon biotopes are modeled on the pools and ruts of water that are scattered within the rainforest. Organic matter fallen from the canopy decays to contribute to the acidity. In the aquarium this rotting vegetation is best replaced with a pH down chemical however.
The low pH means that undesirable chemicals from fish should be watched all the more carefully. As the pH becomes more acid the toxicity of ammonia increases.

Discus tank, feeding time.Part 1
Tank contains 6 Red turk discus,8 corydoras sterbai, 4 panda corys, 2 wild rams and a pair of Twig catfish. There is also a L134 Leopard Frog Pleco, but he only comes out in the night. The tank is a jewel rio 180 with the standard filter plus a large external. The fish are being fed frozen bloodworm, mysis and a small amount of beefheart. They also eat tetra prima. Water is very soft, PH 6.2, very clean. Temp 82f. Hope you enjoy feeding time.....
