it all depends what you want to do. for it's original intent, i say kindle. It perfect for me as I like to read and create content about fibreglass fabrication methods, so i don't need all of the bells and whistles!

I am always in the move. The text to speech function and its longer battery life are the plus points over iPad.

Kindle. I do not need to carry computer with limited functionality. iPad is totally useless toy for teenage masturbators.
When I want to play, I play on PS3. When want to read news on net, turn on my laptop. When want to listen music, take iRiver with me. When want to see movie, go to cinema or watch on my 46" LED LCD. Every activity I do, must be an exceptional quality. Then it is real fun.

I love my kindle - it is like reading a book. I hate reading books from my laptop screen so I can't imagine wanting to read from an iPad.
I can't remember the last time I read a book with pictures so the lack of colour doesn't bother me at all.
The weight and size of the iPad would also put me off.

If I want to use an e-reader it would be the kindle. Hands down. And seeing how that is the only feature they share (yes the kindle can play music and browser the web, but both are beta features and probably won't be official until later versions) then the decision is easy.

As an e-reader, I would still go with the Kindle. It has a very long battery life and the eInk alllows you to read for long periods of time. The LED backlit LCD screen of the iPad is great -- but uses lots of power and creates eye strain, like any computer screen.

I love my iPad for reading books. I had a kindle and a sony book reader. iPad blows them out of the water. Plus if I want to take a break and play a game, or check my email, or browse the web, I can.

Ipad for m is the winner, despite it lacking eInk (which at the moment isnt as mature as i would like.... the delay bugs me) the ipad is more versatile and allows me to do a lot more than simply read books.
