Excellent article on some tools that are sorely needed. I have been trying to add UK Amazon products in various ways for a while and now I have found the SquidUtils poster ads....

Thank you for writing this. I was getting a little confused as to whether I needed to be an Amazon associate in order to make money, but you cleared that up for me. :)

Very good lens on Amazon marketing. This is the kind of information beginners want to start with :-)

Well, not only beginners as you cover some "pro" stuff in here as well!

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, this was really useful. I had been fooling around with plain text links, and I didn't know the 4% vs 50% of 8.5%, so that's worth some thought.

I have a question about using squidutils amazon links, since you mentioned that "- Supports US and UK Associate Tags.", is it possible for me, living in the Philippines, to take advantage of this useful link? Thanks in advance. :)

it's easy to add amazon links on the squidoo page
  • PaulLev Jan 2, 2012 @ 6:50 pm | delete
Excellent lens - thanks. Another reason to go with Squidoo rather than Amazon Associate links is that Squidoo allows you to make the payout as low as you like, in contrast to Amazon which doesn't pay until you've earned at least $10.

Squidoo just wouldn't be complete without you, Fluff, thanks so much for all you do. Changing my amazon links has been on my 'to do' list for SO long, finally getting started on a few thanks to you and this lens.

Hi thefluffanutta, thanks for the informative lens and your help earlier in the forums about my question on floating text around an amazon image. Question, when you use the SquidUtils tool to generate a squidoo-optimized static version of amazon affiliate code link, does it remain your affiliate code or does it change it to squidoo? In other words, would I still get 100% of commission or does it alter code so that it's shared with squidoo similar to when we use the squidoo amazon modules?
  • thefluffanutta Nov 18, 2011 @ 4:39 pm | delete
You get all of the affiliate revenue at whatever commission rate you get for the month, although 10% of the click-throughs go to the SquidUtils tag instead (to pay for server costs, etc).
  • Netlexis Nov 15, 2011 @ 6:18 pm | delete

  • ouriloilo Nov 1, 2011 @ 9:33 am | delete
Good thing I found this lens. I was already wondering on how to use my amazon id to post links in squidoo.
  • ShiloEagle Oct 19, 2011 @ 2:13 pm | delete
Is there a minimum or maximum amount of Amazon Modules you can use??
  • thefluffanutta Oct 21, 2011 @ 6:47 pm | delete
You can have up to 20 Amazon modules on a lens.
There is no limit to how many of your own Associate links though.
  • ShiloEagle Oct 21, 2011 @ 8:23 pm | delete

  • Rewards4life Oct 19, 2011 @ 2:56 am | delete
I love the tool, but would you mind explaining is there any difference between Squidoo module and Squidutils code in "cookie" terms, and when it expires? Is it a standard "this session" referral or 30-days (as in many other affiliate programs)? Thanks in advance!
  • LNAngel Oct 10, 2011 @ 10:38 pm | delete
I'd love to know a way to feature a non-default color...like if I want to show all 3 colors of something, but the ASIN only defaults to one color.

can i put my amazon ad store code into a lens? it would be much easyer, if not what is the best way to build a lens with amazon products
  • thefluffanutta Oct 8, 2011 @ 4:58 pm | delete
No, you cannot insert the Amazon aStore code in to a lens, but you can link to one. The best way to feature products on a lens is with the Amazon modules that Squidoo have, or with the tools described on this page.

Question: Can I click on my own Amazon links on my blog and purchase through there, earning myself a commission? I've been googling this and just can't seem to find the answer! I hear people do this but is Amazon OK with this or no?
  • thefluffanutta Jul 20, 2011 @ 5:14 am | delete
No, Amazon do not allow you to buy products through your own Associate links. However, it is okay to buy through Squidoo's Amazon modules.
  • radkenz Jul 4, 2011 @ 2:27 am | delete

how does Amazon cutting off all affiliates in CA yesterday (and other states previous) effect this Squidoo payment system ?
BTW, seems the ebaYinc royalty gig is dead now too, any comments on that ?
  • thefluffanutta Jul 2, 2011 @ 9:10 am | delete
Squidoo is based in New York, so they aren't affected by Amazon's decision to cut off affiliates. You can still earn money though the Amazon modules.

As for eBay, you can only use the official module provided by Squidoo.
  • NightMagic Jun 21, 2011 @ 4:45 pm | delete
Funny, I was just working with Amazon when I came across your lens from a question I had asked and you responded. Thank you for teaching me something new today like 3-4 links in a row, dual amazon links and broken product links. You're terrific.

I am so glad I found your lens. The Amazon Affiliate Link Generator is a great tool that I plan to use. I like the fact that it makes a better more noticable Amazon link. I'm also going to check out the other SquidUtils tools. Thanks.
  • Graceonline Jun 15, 2011 @ 6:27 pm | delete
Thank you for this and for all you do for Squidom. Point of clarification on your very first sentence: So it IS okay to use an Amazon-generated associates text-only link in, say, a text module? I think that is what I am seeing there. Good news, if so.
  • thefluffanutta Jun 16, 2011 @ 4:12 am | delete
Yes, you can use the text only Associate links in any module.
  • Graceonline Jun 16, 2011 @ 8:45 pm | delete

Great lens, been using the modules for a long time but was wondering how people were getting the co.uk option, now I know. Might have to think about getting an associate account, I know the US tends to buy more but a few of my lenses would benefit from offering items not available in the US.

I did read that this amazon tool is only for the UK and the US available at this time. Are planning to expand to Germany and Canada though? I would definitely be interested in having it for the German Amazon.
  • huvalbd Mar 27, 2011 @ 7:41 am | delete
I live in the UK and have been looking for a way to add affiliate links for Amazon products over here. Everything I'm finding is purely for Amazon.com in the USA. Yes, I know from another website I run that Americans buy and Brits rarely buy. Even so, I would love to see a more international orientation in both Squidoo and SquidUtils.
  • thefluffanutta Mar 27, 2011 @ 9:39 am | delete
SquidUtils has always supported UK Associates - that is why I created it :o)

Hi Fluff, Can I use the poster ad size Amazon product using squidutils in the intro of my lens? I do not have a picture of the product I am writing about, so I was wondering if I can use the one in Amazon since all the products in my new lens are linked to Amazon.
  • thefluffanutta Mar 23, 2011 @ 5:07 am | delete
Yes, you can, though it's probably better to use a plain image from Amazon. Using the Poster Ad as the lens photo might confuse people because it has a button they can't click on. Also, the Poster Ad needs to be updated on a regular basis, so it's best not to take a copy.
  • BubblesRFun Mar 16, 2011 @ 10:18 am | delete
Thank you for this lens....Now, I completely understand Amazon and Squidoo...:)
  • sueling3 Mar 7, 2011 @ 8:47 am | delete
    Hi,

Im based in the UK and been allocated an Amazon.com account (affiliate-id xxxxxx02-20)

My UK account is xxxxxx-21 but it does let me create an (affiliate-id xxxxxx02-21) version
within the Amazon UK affiliate scheme so I assume this does mean the affilated-id's are both the same.

I dont quite understand your utility... If I use your dual Amazon utility.

    1) Should I put the USA affiliate-id in the box ie. xxxxxx02-20 or should I leave off the -20 and -21 and just put xxxxxx02

    2) If I had a product that was only available on Amazon.com and completely different product that was only available on Amazon.uk could I use your utility once to show product1 for usa viewers and product 2 for uk viewers.
  • thefluffanutta Mar 8, 2011 @ 5:25 am | delete
    1) You should put in your full US affiliate tag, e.g. xxxxxx02-20. The UK tag must be the same, but with -21 on the end. This is so that the script can switch the -20 to -21 for UK visitors.

    2) Yes. You can provide two different ASIN codes, on for the Amazon US and the other for Amazon UK. Note that the picture displayed will be from the US product.

Awesome Article! I googled this topic and yep, I shoulda known it would bring me back to a squidoo lens. Exactly the answer to my Squidoo|Amazon Associate question
  • ShirleySunshine Feb 23, 2011 @ 11:32 am | delete
Yes, another fantastically helpful Lens, great work! I note that most sales in my Zazzle stores are from the US, though I work from the UK. Thank you again for this useful information!
  • dannystaple Feb 20, 2011 @ 8:19 am | delete
As always - this is a great tool - thanks fluff! While I am writing from the Uk, I am relatively sure most, if not all of my traffic to my lenses is from the states. My personal site was a Uk oriented site with Uk only product links, which generated virtually no revenue despite a highish site following. Analysing it with analytics revealed that only a small single digit percentage of users were actually in the uk. Cool tools - and decent advice.

Hi, Sorry to ask almost the same question, I just want to be clear - when you talk about country, you are talking about the country of our visitors, not the lensmaster - so as long as my market is US, it doesn;t matter that I live in new zealand - is this correct? Also, does this only apply to squidutils, or is it an amazon affiliate link, and what about squidoo modules?
  • poutine Oct 28, 2010 @ 8:44 am | delete
Do you mean that it doesn't work for Canada?
  • thefluffanutta Oct 28, 2010 @ 9:42 am | delete
I'm afraid not. The best thing to do is register with the US program, and promote US products on your lenses - that is where the traffic and money is.

Have you signed up with the UK program? If your associate tag ends in -21 then you will always get UK products in sterling.

The US program is completely separate and requires another account. The associate tags will end in -20, and when you use the tool will generate links to US products in dollars,

Thanks! I've been using one of the SquidUtils tools to generate these ads, and it works great! Now I'll start in on the banners, and perhaps get to the dual nationality one when the product makes sense to do it.

Hi everybody. I found that this tools are great and I already opened an Amazon-associates account to use them. But I live in Australia. So can I use this tools ? If no, how can I find the way around this problem?

I wish to have my amazon modules from amazon.co.uk (prices in pounds) NOT from the US version (prices in dollars) - how do I do this, as my amazon modules seem automatically to only come up in the US version ?
  • thefluffanutta Feb 7, 2010 @ 3:53 am | delete
It's not possible to feature UK products in Squidoo's Amazon Module, which is why I created the link generator on this page for Amazon Associates.

However, it's generally best to stick to selling US products in $s, as most of your visitors will be from America, not Britain.

How much can I earn from Amazon Modules? How does the royalties calculate?
  • thefluffanutta Jan 20, 2010 @ 3:38 am | delete
For every item sold via your lens, Squidoo pays you a percentage of the price of that item, usually around 4%. So, if you sell something that costs $100, you will get ~$4. This lens explains how it works.
  • NightSquid Jan 19, 2010 @ 2:29 am | delete
Great lense Fluffanutta, I use the Spotlight Module myself though I have had certain circumstances when only a direct affiliate link would do. Cheers
  • Pryzym Jan 11, 2010 @ 5:11 pm | delete
I've been trying to figure out how to create that Amazon "iframe" link. I'm so glad I found it here! Thank you for sharing!!
  • partybuzz Dec 28, 2009 @ 8:25 am | delete
Great info! I use the Amazon modules, especially the Spotlight module. I'm also an Amazon affiliate, and I usually add text links that are my own, but use the module for the product. I get sales both ways, and do find that I make as much or more in commission through the Squidoo modules. I usually pick my own products. A quick idea I use is this: While on the Amazon product page, at the top left of the page there is a LINK TO THIS PAGE link. If you are an affiliate, you can log in and get the code for the product or the text link of the product. Makes it so much easier!

I loved the Amazon Affiliate Link Generator while I could use it. Being able to add them to just about any other Squidoo module allows for so much freedom and creativity - totally recommended for anyone who belongs to the Amazon Associates program!

Now that I'm no longer able to use an Amazon Associates ID (because of the State I live in) I have to use the Amazon modules again. I certainly miss using this excellent tool!

So basically, once you see 7 sales from Amazon Squidoo modules in your royalties every month, it's time to switch them over to be Amazon affiliate badges.

This is great. It's a little time consuming to locate products and get the code, but I can see it'll be worth it as I keep making more lenses and hopefully sell plenty of Amazon products. I can also use an Amazon product in a module to add some interest. Sometimes I can't find a photo go illustrate what I'm writing about, but an Amazon product might do it. Thanks.

I have an Amazon affiliate account. When promoting an item, I use a text module and add a link at the bottom. Most of my lenses have both Squidoo and my links. I don't want to cut Squidoo completely out. That's how they make their money and I do care about lens rank.

Very nice len!.By the way,If you want to remove the underlines on some (but not all) of your links. Just add STYLE="text-decoration: none" on the links that you don't want to be underlined. (You should include the quote signs like the example above.) For links that you want to keep underlined, use the regular tag. An example is shown below:

    Example

This is an unusual link, it has no underline

    Hope this help

    Re: Ruggero.
Yes, you can paste 3 Amazon Links into a single Text Module, as long as you don't put any newlines between each one.
Or you can use the grid format of the Amazon RSS Feeds.
  • RuggeroSB Feb 18, 2008 @ 1:58 am | delete
Great stuff - been looking for something like this! I almost resorted to hosting the amazon links on another page! Quesion: Is it possible to have these links lined up next to each other? Gypsy, the associate tag will only be pulled out of the Amazon URL if tag text box is empty. If you entered an associate tag, then it will not be overwritten. Hope that makes sense.
  • InvoluntaryGypsy Oct 28, 2007 @ 5:19 pm | delete
The instructions read to enter the URL from an Amazon module if no associate tag is available. The tool will extract the Squidoo unique lens tag automatically for commission credit. I did this for 2 different lenses and the same code appeared. And the code was a simple squidoo-xx. Is this correct???

Sandif, You can only insert code which consists of simple text or image links. Code that includes Javascript, Forms or IFrames can't be used. This Amazon tool that I made is fully compatible with Squidoo.
  • sandif Jul 27, 2007 @ 5:32 pm | delete
    Hi,

I was going to use the code you can generate from Ebay; it didn't work, so I am assuming that there may be the same problem as with Amazon. Is that correct? Thank you.
