Oh, I just wanted to let you know, though: being a real newbie, I would have liked more step-by-step instructions, like screenshots or a. go there, b. do that, etc - you get my point. Nevertheless, I still think I can find my way in applying your advice. Thanks again!

really useful information about Amazon, trying to make money and donating to some of charity but its rather difficult, thanks for the great information, will try to use it.

Geez I dont want to come across as a complainer, but every day I have to connect Facebook on my Squidcast. There is a Share Page Meebo bar at the bottom of each page, only Twitter works on it. In fact I love Twitter because its so simple and there has never been any connectivity problem with them, but I cant hang around twitter all day.
  • Nov 25, 2010 @ 10:25 am | delete
This is so discouraging : (, all my lenses stats claim I dont have amazon and ebay and I most certainly do and all my lenses Guestbook module does not include the Facebook connection and I have no idea how to connect it. In fact I have been congratulated on a Facebook Firestarter, but it hasnt started yet. :(
  • Nov 25, 2010 @ 10:14 am | delete
I've just checked the ebay link on "http://www.squidoo.com/bonvoyage1000-bus-opportunity" but the Stats claims "eBay Orders. Sorry, you don't have any eBay orders from your lens yet.". Why is that? Those ebay links have been there a long time? It seems I am getting nowhere! Where can I get someone to check my lenses, there seems several problems between the server and my lenses. :(
  • Nov 25, 2010 @ 9:50 am | delete
I am sorry but I have got amazon links on my lens "http://www.squidoo.com/life-as-it-was-meant-to-be-", but its Stats says I don't. So it seems there's no point placing amazon on my lens if its not going to show. Granted there is no ebay on the lens, I shall try it now and if that doesnt show, where can I get help? Also my Guestbook feature does not work because Facebook is disconnected on it. I discovered by deactivating Facebook all the links turned off, this makes me think Squidoo is connected to facebook somehow.

I actually took a bunch of my posts and lessons and made a page with a free domain using http://www.website.ws/gfiscale ...

its PERFECT so i wonder if I could put the amazon modules on the page too.. hit me up if you know how. I really like the ranking module that is great! Thanks for the help.

Very useful tips to follow - after 73 lenses I have only just discovered how to add Amazon ads to the right-hand side. I have never tried the Amazon recommendations - didn't even know there was a module for that, so will try it, as I find their recommendations are really rather good and relevant.
  • JollyvilleChick Oct 11, 2010 @ 12:43 am | delete
I've found the Amazon Recommendations module difficult to use. I couldn't modify my search terms after I entered the initial product. I'll stick with plain 'ol Amazon module !

  • vallain Aug 16, 2010 @ 8:40 am | delete
This is a help, as I wasn't comfortable using the plexo and the Amazon recommendations. Mostly I use the Spotlight.
Your additions of links and photos and a nice box around comments should really show the books or products off well.

Good explanations of WHAT each one does BUT Saying WHAT a module will do, is NO USE unless you say HOW to do it! I tried to make the Amazon module work last night and the part I wanted to fill in wouldn't work. There were no instructions anywhere. I gave up wasting my time. Very frustrating.
  • dr12040 Jul 4, 2010 @ 2:24 pm | delete

In my lens titled /www.squidoo.com/rock-climbing--finding-partners">Finding Rock Climbing Partners, I spontaneously came up with an idea as I was adding an Orbitz travel module!

In the Orbitz one, I promoted the idea of going on a climbing trip(and suggested an appropriate destination). Then, I followed with an Amazon module and suggested guidebooks about the destination.

So - my two modules are sort of working together. Maybe this is an "old standard" for experienced lensmasters, but I can tell you I was quite pleased with myself when I got the idea!

Now, I am going to think about using some of the ideas you mentioned in this lens to make my Amazon sections even more inviting.

    Adoley,

I tried to contact you to answer your question. But I couldn't find an email...

    So here it goes:
You don't need to use your amazon affiliate code anywhere in the module. Squidoo has its own.

If you have followup questions please let me know. If you don't want to post your email you can use the contact me button.
  • marymc Aug 19, 2008 @ 8:18 pm | delete
A zillion thanks for responding. Watch me shine, thanks to you.
  • boredofeducation Aug 19, 2008 @ 6:45 pm | delete
You don't need to set up your own amazon associates account. Squidoo takes care of that. You do need to have your own paypal account so Squidoo can pay you!

And make sure your profile is correct under payment settings.

    I hope that helps.

    Rachel,

Thank you for your lens, people starting
tend to leave descriptions and and titles
with less information than is good that
is no up set in the short run yet will slow
them down over time so yes its great that
with Squidoo you can go back and fix those
things and be on the way to spreading the
word and getting your work done. This lens
is great work and worth every work, just not
enough of this type of help.

Thanks for the informative lens. I have not read your lens before I wrote my first lens about coffee grinders, but I have used some of the techniques you suggest:

The titles should hopefully catch attention (e.g.: "Top 3 burr coffee grinders from Amazon").
    All the products are hand-picked.
I write a bit of an introduction for each Amazon module giving people some advice about selecting the product that is best for them.
For each product I write why I recommend it - highlighting the strengths and sometimes also weaknesses of that particular coffee grinder.

I find the last point probably the most important. Well, I have not made any sales yet - but then again I didn't get that much traffic so far.

If you're using the Squidoo money making modules, you don't need an affiliate ID for any of the sites--including eBay. The transaction is recorded using Squidoo's ID and then you get 50% of Squidoo's share.

    I hope that helps.
  • Beaddoodler Mar 12, 2008 @ 9:23 pm | delete
Great Information! I'm new to blogging, squido and all that.
One question. I know you have to have an affiliate ID to receive royalties from e bay sales referred by your site. Do you also need an affiliat ID for Amazon.com?

I agree with JulieH910, I think pulling your own amazon listings would be a great feature, With ebay's rising prices I think more individuals will be jumping on Amazons ship really soon.
  • Sep 22, 2007 @ 11:13 am | delete
Great information! I only wish there was an Amazon module that could pull our "own" listings like the one for Ebay does. Anyone know how to make that happen? Thanks!
  • Susan52 Sep 9, 2007 @ 8:13 am | delete
Thanks for the lesson. I also like using the "display thumbnails" option in some cases where a neat horizontal line of products fits well, such as in the SquidWho layout. Featuring one item and then showing five thumbnail alternatives in the module below it can look nice and give more choices.

This is a great way to illustrate what you can do with Amazon! Love it. ;) My favorite way to use Amazon would have to be the backwards way I used it on my MSG lens--to promote foods I was criticizing. ;) Obviously, I'm not looking to sell anything off that one, unless people just can't resist! Ha!
