Amazon and Squidoo, what a great combination!

Lensmasters can promote a large variety of products from the Internet's largest online retailer without belonging to the Amazon Associates program, and earn 50% of Squidoo's commission for any items that are purchased from the Amazon Modules on their Lenses!

There are six Amazon modules on Squidoo, the Amazon Spotlight module is my favorite, but they can all be used effectively if you take a little time to work on them.

Here's my suggestions for using each one, hopefully you'll get some ideas of your own, and find ways to use them that you hadn't thought of before.

Amazon Basics: Getting Started

If you are already successfully using Amazon on Squidoo, then there's not much I can tell you about the basics, but if you aren't using Amazon, or if you aren't getting any sales through your Amazon Modules, here's some things to start out with.

If you are like me, being a salesperson is not what you really want to be. I never wanted to work in sales, but having a platform like Squidoo to sell things on is actually pretty fun. You can write about why you like something, just pretend you are telling a friend or family member about a product you'd like them to try.

That's why I recommend focusing on products you use, or know well. You don't even need to have ever bought anything from Amazon, but most likely, if you look, you've find many things you buy everyday can be found on Amazon, so write about them!

If you can convey to your readers why you like and use something, there's a good chance you'll be able to get them to check it out for themselves. If you have a camera, try to take some good looking pictures of the product. Consider pictures that show the product in action, or show angles that give your reader a better idea of what the product looks like.

Many Modules allow you to disable the image that comes from Amazon, you can use your own hosting (or free hosting from sites like Photobucket) to place your pictures in the description area of the Module, or use a Text or Text with BIG picture Module to use your own pictures and add more information about the product.

Even if your whole Lens is not about the product you are featuring, showing pictures with the product being used in other sections of your Lens can complement and reinforce your product choice when the reader gets to that point.

Watch out for products that have low star ratings on Amazon. The modules that show the ratings can be set to not show them, but if the reader clicks through and sees a low star rating it's going to be a hard sell. If the low rating is showing on your Lens, they probably won't click through, anyway.

Remember, however you use them, try to keep your products focused to your Lens topic and keywords. Also, try to give your readers as much information as you can, at least try to explain why you've chosen to promote the products you are displaying. With so much information on the Internet, it could mean the difference between someone visiting Amazon through your links, or going back to Google to find someone else who will answer their questions.

Amazon's Music Module

The Amazon MP3 Module is a great way to showcase your favorite music, and your readers may even be compelled to purchase some.

One of the best parts of this is that you don't have to worry about shady "free" download sites. If it is available, it's easy to find, and easy to set it up for people to preview the songs without even leaving your Lens.

Amazon Spotlighted On Squidoo

The Amazon Spotlight Module has become my favorite Amazon Module on Squidoo. It features a single product at a time, and has a larger product picture than the other modules, except for the MP3 module.

With all that space, hopefully you can come up with enough of a description to make people interested enough to click on it.
