I wanted to buy one for my daughter but didn't want her to be able to make the purchases and access my credit card.
    Are there security options?
  • TransplantedSoul Sep 16, 2011 @ 6:34 am | delete
I'm thinking of taking the plunge. The 3G option is something I'm not sure is necessary. I mean with a small bit of planning to use WiFi, how much would I need 3G? Thoughts?
  • TraceyE Sep 17, 2011 @ 1:53 am | delete
I got the wifi model only. I didn't really think I'd be roaming in an area without wifi and suddenly go 'oh I need this book RIGHT NOW!' .. Plus I'm a cheapskate and didn't want to pay the ongoing 3G costs.
  • kindleuser Sep 27, 2011 @ 12:33 am | delete
I do not think you will need 3G. WiFi would do just fine. Extra cost is not worth the benefit. When you can carry thousands of books with you, it is only rarely you will need to purchase a book where you need no access to a computer or WiFi.

I love my Kindle and use the pdf conversion service for all my internet marketing books. One important hint. Only use the one word - convert - in the subject line. I made the mistake of typing "please convert" one time. And received my books in pdf format on my kindle. Not nearly as easy to read! so Don't say please!

The Kindle makes me happy snappy (with an echo). It is great always having 30+ unread books with me where ever I go.

Can you download Kindleebooks to a Sony ereader
  • Thamisgith Feb 20, 2011 @ 9:58 am | delete
I have the Kindle 2.0 - got it shipped to the UK before the UK Kindle store opened last autumn. Changing it over from Amazon.com to Amazon.co.uk was a piece of cake.

I said I'd keep it for at least twelve months before upgrading to the K3. That'll be next month! Woo hoo!
  • TraceyE Feb 21, 2011 @ 1:03 am | delete
I love my K3 although already I'm waiting for the Kindle 4! Now that e-ink has produced color I'm guessing the K4 is going to be fullcolor and hopefully touchscreen to rival the nook and sony e-reader. Good stuff!

I have a new Kindle in March and I love him. This is the first e-reader, and I am a bit "nervous, first, money second book reader, but I'm so glad I did. The next day I got a Kindle, I ended up staying with her mother in the hospital for four days and four nights. My Kindle is my business if it does not help. I wish I had downloaded all my favorite books in one click (most of which are free) and can a new book in a few seconds hospitals Wi-Fi be. Only I did not realize was that the "no light Kindle, if you need something else, if you read in the dark. And super long time to light and easy to read. It is also easy to carry in your pocket and read in the evening, to expect people to be biaxial. In general, I am so glad I bought a Kindle and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read! This is a great lens, and very informative. Good Job!! I think the Kindle is going to really catch on, as Amazon has outdone themselves here. Everyone can check out what others are saying here too: http://www.squidoo.com/kindle-wireless-review

Does anyone know how long the battery of kindle usable? I heard that it dies after 13 months and you cannot change it. the only way is that you need to send the kindle to amazon and pay them to integrate a new battery?
And also i heard that it has some screen problems that havent resolved yet! For more info, read the most useful critic on kindle 2 page. i really want to purchase this item but critics scare me

I am so into my Kindle that I mistakingly asked another reader what she thought of her Kindle - which was actually a little white book she was reading. She looked at me like I was from outer space and asked, "What's a Kindle?" I do love mine!

    TraceyE,
    Wow, awesome Kindle centric lens.
I added a link to this on my http://www.squidoo.com/KindleTwo lens, and would love it if you would like to join two new groups I formed today.
    http://www.squidoo.com/groups/Kindle2
    http://www.squidoo.com/groups/eReaders
The idea is to get some interlense links cooking for all the Kindle 2, and eReader interest/info we squid members have.

There have been lots of complaints (besides the question of price): the clunky page-turn buttons that you can't avoid hitting by accident; absurd DRM that prevents you from offloading the content you've paid for; annoying and intrusive uploading feature that requires you to pay Amazon to read your own documents; lack of WiFi; clunky interfaces for searching, annotating, etc. These all seem obvious targets for revision in version 2.0. So the question is: when do we get Kindle 2.0? Is there a new version in the works? Has Amazon responded to any of these complaints? Thanks.
