American Buffalo Gold Coins

The American Buffalo gold coin series was created to compete with the market demand for foreign 24-karat gold bullion coins. Many bullion coin investors prefer 99.99% pure gold coins such as the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf over the American Gold Eagle coins that only have a gold content of 91.67%. Coins were minted at the West Point Mint in New York. According to the U.S. Mint website, only the proof versions of the Buffalo gold coins display the mint mark "W" on the obverse of the coin located behind the neck of the Indian the bullion version does not have the "W" mint mark.
