US Mint $50 24K Gold Buffalo Coins
The American Buffalo fifty dollar gold coins were the first .pure gold coins ever produced by the United States Mint. These one ounce gold coins were issued as proof coins from 2006 to 2009 with a face value of $50.
In 2008 both proof and uncirculated gold Buffalo coins were issued as one ounce coins, half ounce coins, quarter ounce coins and one tenth of an ounce coins. A 24-karat gold four coin proof set containing the one ounce coin and fractional coins was also issued in 2008. These coins provided coin collectors and bullion coin investors a way to own pure gold legal tender coins whose content and purity is guaranteed by the United States Government.

Coins were minted at the West Point Mint in New York. According to the U.S. Mint website, only the proof versions of the Buffalo gold coins display the mint mark "W" on the obverse of the coin located behind the neck of the Indian the bullion version does not have the "W" mint mark.
