Naomi Wolf- The End of America- Fascism Replaces Democracy
In response to a friend who had survived Hitler's transformation of Germany from Democracy to Fascism, Naomi Wolf studied these transformations in various countries- Italy with Mussolini, Germany with Hitler, and so on. What she found is that there are TEN STEPS that each of these used to destroy democracy and turn those countries over to dictatorship and WAR.
This has nothing to do with 'opinions,' 'party' or 'politician'- fascists don't even need to be in the majority. Hitler began this process when he was barely a blip on the democratic Germany's political radar. It was a democracy, like ours, when he began- and yet look what he was able to accomplish in so short a time!
This game has been occurring RIGHT UNDER OUR EYES for twenty years. We are at a critical juncture. Get this wrong, and we'll end up with a Hitler or Stalin HERE. Get it right, and we'll STILL have to fight to get, and keep, our country.

The historical record is clear. Ms. Wolf outlines the ten steps as demonstrated in history. She also outlines various steps that have already been taken by our government to destroy our democracy.

- Create/Invoke a terrifying external AND internal threat to security. Exaggeration, lying about, and distortion of the threat is how it is played. Best if the threat is amorphous and impossible to 'pin down.'
- Create an prison camp and military tribunals that are OUTSIDE of the law.
- Develop a private military that is not bound by the law of the democracy or constitution. Give them broad authority and limit accountability to law.
- Begin extraordinary internal surveillance. Turn your citizens into 'enemies' of the state.
- Infiltrate, harrass and corrupt citizens groups, political parties, interest groups. Create problems that make them 'look bad' and turn other citizens against them.
- Target key individuals. Political competitors, Rivals, opposing special interests. Eliminate, defang, discredit or absorb them.
- Terrorize or corrupt the Influential. Universities, Professors, Professionals, anyone trusted with expertise in a position to speak out or influence citizens. Publicize the fear to demonstrate power, and the necessity for it, to the public. Make them afraid to talk or do their professional job.
- Control, by any means necessary, the media. Make it YOUR propaganda machine with lies, distortions, dissimulations, defamations.
- Eliminate dissent. Ensure that citizens understand and cooperate with the tenet 'dissent equals treason' and follow through with accusations in a public and visible way. Generate distrust among groups, families, neighborhoods. Encourage informing on suspected activities or suspicious individuals. Ignore the use of this for personal vendettas, but encourage this to further terrorize civilians.
- Suspend the Rule of Law. Declare Martial Law. Create gathering hyper- or super- treaties and alliances without consultation of law and consolidate into the inner circle.

A Very Serious Turn of Legislation Events

- HR1955 The bill states:
'...ideologically based violence' means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's political, religious, or social beliefs...
Note that this means the "planned use of force to promote a political or social belief" would be considered an act of terrorism. This all hinges on the definition of "force," of course. Based on the loose use of logic in Washington these days, and the slippery interpretation of the meaning of words, "force" could mean:
* A grassroots campaign to barrage Congress with faxes
* A non-violent street protest
* A letter-writing campaign that deluges the Senate with too much mail
* A sit-in protest that blocks access to a business or organization
* A grassroots e-mail campaign that overloads the e-mail servers of any government department or agency
You get the idea. "Force" could be defined as practically anything. And since the "planned use of force" would be considered a criminal act of terrorism, anyone who simply thinks about a grassroots action campaign would be engaged in terrorist acts.

Really Scary Stuff
When my kids were small, after cleaning the carpet and then taking a shower, I was in my bathrobe, still wet, when suddenly a SWAT team of 8 men in full gear and helmets kicked in the door of my home, terrorizing me and my kids. When I demanded the reason for their 'visit' they said someone called and said they heard a baby crying! I had no babies there, just small children, and they were in the bedroom watching TV, waiting for the fresh-washed carpet to dry- they were certainly not crying, as a moment listening at the door would have told these guys, if they had cared. They, of course, had no warrant, even though they kicked the door down and destroyed it.They said, 'the place is a mess!' There was no furniture in the room. I said, 'not until your filthy boots destroyed my clean carpet!' I demanded to see their warrant, WITH THEIR GUNS POINTED AT MY HEAD. They left instead, us insecure with no useable or closeable door.
While nothing happened to me, I knew from that day on what an arbitrary law enforcement system would be like, and I have opposed it. It is unconstitutional, illegal, and it is occurring in America to innocent people.

One of the most significant things about American History has been how peacefully power has tranferred from one leader to the next, from one party to the next. Our primary, and most powerful, means of dissent from the policies of any given administration is the VOTING booth- we can 'throw the bums out'.
It isn't the only way though, and protest marches, boycotts, strikes, all have been used to dissent from policies that the citizens have been opposed to or find damaging.
All of this is going by the wayside and the citizens are being IGNORED or scared away from dissenting.

- The investigation was launched after Jennifer Brunner, Ohio's Secretary of State and chief election official, found that a candidate's name was marked as withdrawn on the electronic voting machine that she used during the recent primaries, an irregularity that was also reported by voters in other precincts. The state attorney general is now working with a team of computer forensic consultants to determine if there was any tampering.

"Don't get me wrong-I think that voting system software should be available to the public, but that is a different issue from whether or not testing labs are competent at protecting things that they are trusted with and that they believe they are supposed to protect."

Martial Law suspends the Constitution of the United States for six months without recourse.There are many who fear that another 'attack' such as 9/11 will enable the Administration to declare martial law prior to the elections.
This would keep the current Administration in power indefinitely, and martial law with all the gutted Constitutional laws would permit previous legislators to be charged and held without reason, eliminating the possibility of their return once Constitutional Law was returned (if it was.)
