Books for kids
My daughter came home today from school and I asked her about what all they had done today in class just like I do every day when she walks in we go over everything that she has brought home or do her home work that she needs done . She started telling me about her day and that they were learning about American folk heroes. Well that got me thinking back to when I was her age sitting around with my Grandfather telling the stories to me. I love to hear him tell stories he could make you feel just like you were right there in the middle of them. This is just some of the American folk heroes that he would always tell me about. There are so many great books out there for kids to read about American folk heroes.

Davy Crockett

Davy Crockett was a 19th century frontiersman, politician and a American folk hero.Davy was born what is now Greene County, Tennessee. On September 24, 1813, Crockett joined the Second Regiment of Tennessee Volunteer Mounted Riflemen for an initial term of 60 days and served under Colonel John Coffee in the Creek War. In early January 1836 Crockett and 65 other men signed an oath before Judge John Forbes to the Provisional Government of Texas for six months. Crockett arrived at the Alamo on February 8. To the surprise of the men garrisoned in the Alamo, on February 23, a Mexican army, led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, arrived. The Mexican soldiers immediately initiated a siege. The siege ended on March 6, when the Mexican army attacked just before dawn while the defenders were sleeping. The Battle of the Alamo lasted almost 90 minutes Once all of the defenders had been killed, Santa Anna ordered his men to take the bodies to a nearby stand of trees. Grandfather telling the stories to me.
Sitting around with my Grandfather telling the stories to me was always a big deal with me. I could sit for hours listen to him tell me the stories. He would make you feel like you were right there in the middle of everything that was going on. To me my grandfather had to be one of the best story tellers there ever was but i guess i would say that because he was my grandfather. Yet even today as I'm writing this little bit it brings me back to the great times we had together.I have tried to pass on the stories he told me to all my children. I have 5 all are grown but one and she is 7 and she still loves for me to tell her stories at night before bed
Do you think your childern would love to hear you tell them about American Folk Heroes and legends

To me this is some of the best time that you could spend with you children.

- When my nephews were young they would often come and spend the weekend with us. They always looked forward to a good story or two before bed. These are very special memories that my wife and I, and hopefully the boys, will long remember.
