American Sign Language Colors
If you're interested in teaching yourself or your children American Sign Language the signs for colors are a great place to start.
That's my son Jeremy in the picture. He's two years old and he's signing the color green. He can sign not only his Sign Language Colors but also his entire alphabet, about 30 different animals, all his family signs and so much more. Sign Language is a beautiful language and children pick it up so quickly and it enhances their educational development.

ASL Sign for "Colors"
American Sign Language Colors

Place the "FIVE" hand in front of your mouth and wiggle the fingers as the hand moves away slowly.
All the illustrations have come from the book "The Joy of Signing" and I scanned them myself. So the light wording you see in the background of all the pictures is the back side of the page I scanned. They were the best illustrations I could get for you.

They're Grouped for a Reason

ASL Colors and Alphabet Similarities
That's my son again in the picture and he's signing the color "Blue". The color blue is the sign language alphabet letter "B" and you shake it.A lot of the color signs in American Sign Language come from the initial letter signs they begin with.
The letter "P" for example is used for both pink and purple signs. In purple, you shake your "P" hand and in the color pink you touch the middle finger of your "P" hand to your chin.
The letter "G" is also the sign for green but you shake it just like with the letter "B" and blue.
There are lots of similarities between the alphabet and the colors in American Sign Language. Once you learn one, the other is really a snap. Give it a try. What have you got to lose. Give your kids and yourself every opportunity to express yourself.
