Color
American Water Spaniels come in three color varieties. Liver, brown and chocolate. Some tend to get white spots as they age.
Exercise
Being a hunting breed they should get plenty of exercise.
Take it to the park or if you have a forrest nearby. Bring it there and let it blow of some steam for couple of hours.

Grooming
Brush thoroughly twice per week and do not bathe unless absolutely necessary as it can dry out their skin.
Health
The breed doe snot have any immediate health concerns, but one should look out for allergies, cancer, cardiac abnormalities, cataracts, diabetes, epilepsy, follicular dystrophy, hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism.
Size
Male water spaniels normally weigh 30-45 pounds while female water spaniels weigh 25-40 pounds. Both male and females are usually 15 to 18 inches in height.
Temperament
Being an intelligent do and an avid hunter. These dogs are excited to hunt both fur, feather and, on occasion, fish.
They are very protective. Especially the person it sees as the pack leader.

Training
Training should be varied. These dogs do not respond well to repeating the same exercises over and over again. American Water Spaniels should be trained using positive reinforcement as it may otherwise become shy or even bite.
