1. Read Gone with the Wind--and other word feasts

Close the door on Idol hype

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Curl up in the other room and drift away to another time, another place. Steep yourself in English spoken with a drawl, a twang, a lilt, a haughty tone. Listen to the rustle of silks and crinolines. Smell and taste the many flavors of the Mississippi. Laugh and weep and rail and giggle.

I love information, history, culture, nature, science and science fiction etc. too many interests and not enough time. However, for R and R I also like the Terry Pratchett Disk World books. Currently for relaxation I'm reading Star Warped, a parody of the star wars films, and Giddy Gabby's blogs.

2. Stop poverty and the spread of the AIDS epidemic right now

Join U2's Bono, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks and many others. It is possible right now, perhaps in this decade, to stop extreme poverty and the spread of the AIDS epidemic worldwide, especially in Africa, Asia and India, where millions of women and children are exposed and dying every year.

It doesn't take much from you. You could make a difference in the time it takes Ryan Seacrest to say, "The results ... right after this commercial break." Well, maybe that and the time before he comes back with "And now ... the results we have all been waiting for."
