A common myth is that all American beers are watered-down schlock.  Patronize any one of a thousand bars around the country and you'll encounter the same old, same old, where Heineken is considered bold and flavorful.

Do a little research and step out of the norm and you will discover a world of carefully crafted beers of all shapes, colors, and styles that will make you slap a stars and stripes magnet to your bumper.

Guinness vs. Rogue Chocolate Stout

If you like Guinness, you'll love Rogue Chocolate Stout.

With all due respect to Guinness, which is by all accounts, BRILLIANT! But remember, people, I'm trying to impart in you the knowledge of good AMERICAN Beer.

So hold on to your hats Stout-lovers. Rogue Chocolate Stout is hedonistic! Ebony in color with a rich creamy head. The mellow flavor of oats, chocolate malts, and real chocolate are balanced perfectly with the right amount of hops for a bittersweet finish.

Do yourself a favor and try it immediately.

Newcastle Brown Ale vs. Lost Coast Downtown Brown

If you like Newcastle Brown Ale, you'll love Lost Coast Downtown Brown.

I happen to hold Newcastle in high regard, and when patronizing any run of the mill establishment, shriek with glee at the site of a Newcastle tap. But, friends, I am also here to say that Lost Coast's Downtown Brown wipes the floor with Newcastle.

A smooth, full-bodied nut brown ale, lightly hopped with a hint of roasted and crystal malts, Lost Coast Downtown Brown is worth getting your hands on (and lips around).

South Florida Pub Spotlight

A Good Beer is Hard to Find... Down Here.

If you live in South Florida, you know how hard it is to sift through all the wet t-shirt contests to find a cool place to enjoy a real beer.

We can now add one more to the short list. Brother Tuckers in Pompano Beach, FL is a tiny little Belgian beer garden in an unlikely location just off the beach. 4 rotating beers on tap, a fine selection of bottled Belgians and American Microbrews, and great food.

For some reason, a pub owner from Pennsylvania decided to open up shop down here and we're grateful that he did. Let's hope the tourists don't scare him away.

Have a beer and some nosh at 3332 East Atlantic Avenue, Pompano Beach, FL; 954-785-1984.

Thirst! Passion! And Little Magnets!

Check out this beer lover's dedication! 1,000 Sierra Nevada bottle caps make up this really cool (and huge) mosaic. He glued little magnets to the inside of the bottle caps so he could stick them to the siding of his house.

What passion! What ingenuity! What totally awesome beer-lust!
