Famous Haunted Hotels in the USA

retweetWe all have heard about haunted houses, haunted cemeteries and of course we also have the haunted hotels. There are actually too many supposedly haunted hotels in the USA, but here I will only list the Most Haunted of them all.

My fascination with the paranormal came at a very early age and since then I've always look for information on the subject. Haunted Hotels are one of my favorites. I personally have never stayed in any of these locations, although I'll love to, but with all the eye witnesses and stories, I don't need to actually be there to see what others are talking about.

I will list links, pages, information and post some interesting videos of all the Most Haunted Hotels In USA.

The Famously Haunted Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel is a 138-room Georgian hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Located within sight of the Rocky Mountain National Park, the Stanley offers panoramic views of the Rockies. It was built by Freelan O. Stanley of Stanley Steamer fame and opened on July 4, 1909, catering to the rich and famous. The hotel and its surrounding lands are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Stanley has hosted many famous guests, including the Titanic survivor Margaret Brown, John Philip Sousa, Theodore Roosevelt, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and a variety of Hollywood personalities. The Stanley Hotel also hosted Stephen King, inspiring him to write The Shining. Contrary to information sometimes published King was living in Boulder at the time and did not actually write the novel at the hotel. Parts of the mini-series version of The Shining were filmed there, although it was not used for Stanley Kubrick's cinematic version.

The Stanley Hotel shows the uncut R-rated version of Kubrick's The Shining on a continuous loop on Channel 42 on guest room televisions.

The Stanley Hotel- The Famous Haunted Hotel

The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. Though it had mixed reviews from the critics upon its release, it was wildly popular with moviegoers and was financially successful. It is now frequently ranked as one of the best horror films as well as one of the greatest films in history and its iconic and surreal imagery is deeply embedded throughout popular culture, although there was a long interval between its release and its achievement of iconic status. Director Stanley Kubrick co-wrote the screenplay with novelist Diane Johnson. The film stars Jack Nicholson as tormented writer Jack Torrance, Shelley Duvall as his wife Wendy, and Danny Lloyd as their son, Danny.

The film tells the story of a writer, Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), who accepts the job of the winter caretaker at a hotel that always gets snowed in during the winter. Jack's son shares psychic abilities with the hotel's chef who calls it "shining". They can see things in the future or past, such as the ghosts of murdered people in the hotel. When the hotel becomes snowbound, Jack Torrance is influenced by the ghosts in the haunted hotel and descends into madness trying to murder his wife and son.

Initial response to the film was mixed and it performed moderately at the box office. Subsequent critical assessment of the film has been more favorable and it is now viewed as a classic of the horror genre. The novel's author Stephen King has had very conflicted feelings about it (see Reception and Comparison with the book) which have oscillated over time. A TV mini-series adaptation of the novel broadcast in 1997 saw King more actively involved.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is less an adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel than a complete reimagining of it from the inside out. In King's book, the Overlook Hotel is a haunted place that takes possession of its off-season caretaker and provokes him to murderous rage against his wife and young son. Kubrick's movie is an existential Road Runner cartoon (his steadicam scurrying through the hotel's labyrinthine hallways), in which the cavernously empty spaces inside the Overlook mirror the emptiness in the soul of the blocked writer, who's settled in for a long winter's hibernation. As many have pointed out, King's protagonist goes mad, but Kubrick's Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is Looney Tunes from the moment we meet him--all arching eyebrows and mischievous grin. (Both Nicholson and Shelley Duvall reach new levels of hysteria in their performances, driven to extremes by the director's fanatical demands for take after take after take.) The Shining is terrifying--but not in the way fans of the novel might expect. When it was redone as a TV miniseries (reportedly because of King's dissatisfaction with the Kubrick film), the famous topiary-animal attack (which was deemed impossible to film in 1980) was there--but the deeper horror was lost. Kubrick's The Shining gets under your skin and chills your bones; it stays with you, inhabits you, haunts you. And there's no place to hide... --Jim Emerson

The Hauntings At The Stanley Hotel

The beautiful Stantley Hotel is the inspiration for the Stephen King's novel, The Shining. If you have read the novel or seen the movie, you may well know that the Stanley Hotel is very much haunted. Although the haunting that occurred in the movie, was very scary and evil; the truth is that the ghost that are haunting this beautiful hotel are no other than the owners themselves, F.O. and Flora Stanley.

It's been said that the ghost of Mr. Stanley can be seen in the lobby, billiard room and in the bar. Many other eye witnesses say that Mrs. Stanley can be hear playing the piano on the ballroom and sometimes they can see the keys of the piano moving. Others claim that the piano bench moves when it's playing.

The most paranormal activity can be felt in the entire 4th floor. To be more specific, rooms 407 and room 418. All around the entire floor you can hear and see children playing and talking, specially in room 418, where guest had sad to have seen or hear a child or children playing or calling their nanny. Room 407 is when people have been saying that a spirit likes to turn the lights off and on again and even when someone is asking them to do so. Other people claim to have seen a face looking down from the window on room 407.

Haunted Queen Mary Hotel

'RMS Queen Mary''' is a retired ocean liner that sailed the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (then Cunard-White Star when the vessel entered service). Built by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland, she was designed to be the first of Cunards planned two-ship weekly express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York, in answer to the mainland European superliners of the late 1920s and early 1930s. After their release from World War II troop transport duties, Queen Mary and her running mate commenced this two-ship service and continued it for two decades until Queen Marys retirement in 1967. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is permanently berthed in Long Beach, California serving as a museum ship and hotel. The Queen Mary'' celebrated the 70th anniversary of her launch in both Clydebank and in Long Beach during 2004, and the 70th anniversary of her maiden voyage in 2006.

During the World War II, Queen Mary was used in the war. During this time more than 300 man died. witnesses have said that you could still hear the screams of the soldiers. Another place that is very haunted is in the kitchen, where a cook was stuffed to an oven and burned to death by the troops because they didn't like his cooking. You could still hear the man's screams.

Queen Mary is an excellent place to visit if you really want to have an encounter with the paranormal.

TWood continues his otherworldly series begun with Ghosts of the Southwest (1997), this time chronicling reports of phantoms from California, Oregon, and Washington. For each location (a variety of hotels, restaurants, homes, ships, prisons, parks, and missions), he provides a history of the site, reports from those purporting to have seen the specter, and accounts of the spirit's supernatural activities. Full-color photos appear on nearly every page; many have been altered so that they seem to include apparitions. Wood makes no effort to discount the reports of his informants or offer rational explanations for these sightings, and some young readers may have difficulty separating fact from fiction., particularly in light of the eerily lit, real-looking photographs. But if you're in the mood for a chilling, can't-put-it-down read, this will hit the spot. Kay Weisman

Haunted Goldfield Hotel

Goldfield Hotel, Nevada

Goldfield, an unincorporated community which is often identified on the internet as a ghost town, is in fact the county seat of Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States, with a resident population of 440 at the 2000 census. It is located about southeast of Carson City, along U.S. Route 95.

Goldfield was a boomtown in the first decade of the 20th century due to the discovery of gold — between 1903 and 1940, Goldfield's mines produced more than $86 million. Much of the town was destroyed by a fire in 1924, although several buildings survived and remain today, notably the Goldfield Hotel, the Consolidated Mines Building (the communications center of the town until 1963) and the schoolhouse. Gold exploration still continues in and around the town today.

Hauntings at The Goldfield Hotel

The story behind the haunting at the Goldfield Hotel are very suspicious but very intriguing indeed. First, the ghost of the young woman called Elizabeth. Elizabeth was a prostitute who became pregnant with George Wingfield' baby. Mr. Windfield was so scared that his social life was going to be affected by her pregnancy, he took Elizabeth to the room 109 of the hotel an chained her to the radiator feeding her food and water until her baby was born.

Elizabeth died screaming during childbirth. Mr. Windfield took the baby and he throw him into an old mining shaft. People can still hear Elizabeth around the hotels looking for her baby.

In the lobby staircase, there have been sightings of three little spirits that like to sneak up on people, giggle and play around.

There are two other ghost that committed suicide on the 3rd floor. One was a woman who hang herself and the other one is a man who jumped from the top of the hotel.
