It's really hard to figure out why I love the show so. I'm a short, slightly pudgy, stay at home mom of two. So, I definitely haven't had a taste of the model life. Also, you would think that all of the tall, beautiful, thin women on the show would intimidate me and remind me of my short comings. But, for some reason they don't.

Some how Top Model doesn't make me feel insecure or inadequate like the fashion magazines do. Perhaps that's due to Tyra's genius. She always chooses a variety of body types and is so complimentary of the plus size models (which actually represent the average woman). Tyra is also very quick to remind the viewers about how they airbrush and digitally enhance photos to do everything from removing dark circles, thinning out arms and legs, or masking cellulite.

My favorite episode each season is the make over show. I love to see the before and after pictures of each of the models. It's such a surprise to see some of the looks that are chosen. For example, Cycle 11's Elina's new look with the crazy red hair.

My favorite part of each episode is the end when they show the photo shoot pictures and critique them. It's so interesting to learn about all of the thought that goes into a magazine editorial (your hand needs to be this way, your eyes should have been looking here, watch your neck, etc).

Most of all, Top Model serves as my guilty pleasure. I really enjoy putting my kids to bed once a week and sitting down to watch Top Model. My husband hates the show. So, all I have to do is turn it on and he quietly leaves the room and finds something to entertain himself for an hour. It's wonderful to have that hour once a week all to myself watching something that is so unapologetically girly!
