Important! Shopping with the Amish 

Points you need to know...

Shopping with the Amish, especially by mail order is DIFFERENT than with other vendors.

Each piece is made by hand, stained and finished by hand. In the event that when you order the piece is built but not finished, expect an additional week. The craftsmen won't wrap the piece if the finish isn't 'cured' because the packing materials will stick to the finish and ruin it.

The craftsmen as a rule ship on Thursdays.

The Amish families bake their bread almost every day. The children enjoy day-old bread slices as french toast with homemade butter and maple syrup, or with homemade apple butter and even some of the famous Amish peanut butter. These are cut into 'fingers' to give Amish babies and toddlers something to snack on.

Toasting the bread and cutting it in squares, drizzling with butter and grated cheese make wonderful floaters in homemade soups or as croutons in salads.

Bread dough or biscuit dough is also dropped by spoonfuls into boiling soup to make dumplings and to thicken stock to create the stew.
