Handcrafting Awesome Things
This lense in progress is here to describe and discuss the craftsmanship of Amish workmen. It will help you to determine whether a piece you are looking to purchase, whether it is Amish or not, has been made to last.
When we speak about Amish crafts, we are talking about more than their amazing construction and design quality. The pieces below are considered 'crafts', not necessarily furniture.
If you see something here that you like, and would like to have made for you, you are welcome to contact me. If you have questions for the craftsmen, I will get your emails to them so they can answer your questions. If you would like to see something discussed here, please sign the guestbook with your questions or recommendations.
Please contact the lensmaster if would like to order. You can also browse the Online Amish Mall. Either way, don't forget to mention Squidoo, for a special and exclusive coupon!

Craftsmanship in the DVD towers
Spins on a Heavy Lazy Susan Base
The Amish craftsmen recognize areas of weakness in modern use furniture, and carefully think about and plan out better solutions. The fins in DVD towers are usually the weakest point, and with chintzy wood, will bend out of shape in time, and make it difficult to use those pieces. The Amish use wood that they are certain has been properly processed, which reduces warping. The construction of the base, on a lazy susan, and the method of building the disk fins are made in such a way to prevent warping or damaging your discs.Thislarge DVD tower holds 96 discs in a very small footprint. Large enough to stand on the floor, yet small enough to put on a table or stand near your television or computer.
