Amish Mission Pieces

Ranked #34,658 in Entertainment, #437,214 overall

The Amish have, almost single handedly, kept the mission spirit alive and available to all of us at a reasonable price.  They've kept true to the  styling, true to the  favored woods, and true to  the stain  colors that the original Mission designers, such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Gustav Stickley, used in their finest pieces. While others just copy mission styles, the Amish designers and craftsmen keep it living by designing true mission pieces, improving on the traditional forms, and increasing utility and comfort all at the same  time.   Decorators, architects and those in the know, all pay close attention to the work the Amish do with  Mission furniture and Mission accessory pieces.  Here we bring to you the  finest work of the best Amish craftsmen, who diligently and intelligently do their  best  to keep this American style alive and well.

Mission Bookends

Quarter Sawn Oak

These mission bookends have been made in the mortise and tenon style that is so prevalent in true mission construction. They are clean and strong, great for a bachelor's apartment, or a sturdy and well used book room. The quarter sawn oak is shown off to great advantage in these bookends, and Michael's Cherry is the preferred stain in the mission style.

Mission Calendar Frame

How often have you received a good calendar, from your church, your insurance agent, your bank, but had no secure place to put it?

Usually these calendars get worn and frayed around the edges long before the year is up, which is a shame because they have not only useful date information, holidays, daylight savings time changes, but usually they have really wonderful pictures.

Since the Amish waste absolutely nothing that comes in their direction, they designed calendar frames that protect and keep a calendar for the entire year. Calendar Frame

The heavy mission style means it will always look good on your wall, like part of your furniture, and also give you a reliable place, year after year, to keep your good calendars.

Mission CD Rack with 5 adjustable shelves

Good for paperbacks, videos and CDs

Mission style shelving is probably the sturdiest, most durable you will ever find. With adjustable shelves, it can change with the ways you change, and the way your collections change. Right now it is CDs and DVDs, but who knows what it will be in just a few years? You will still have your bookshelf, though, where you can keep paperbacks, videos or collections.

Lighter shelving units are often tippy, unstable, and frequently have to be secured to a wall with an L bracket and bolts.

Not so with Amish mission shelving. A solid and heavy mission base and structure keeps it in place, without bowing or bending your shelves.

This is a versatile piece for a bedroom, office, hallway, nook; great for people that have little storage in their homes or apartments and for those who move often. Mission CD Shelves

Mission Cheval Mirror

There are a LOT of Cheval mirrors out there, nearly all of them made of chintzy imported woods and mass produced. If the mirror is a heavy one, like a beveled glass mirror, the mirror itself will put too much stress on the frame, weakening it and making it unreliable, even dangerous.

Amish hand crafted mission cheval mirrors are built with the best and most perfectly dried and processed American hard woods. The base is heavy mission, not easily tipped. The slatted spreader bar provides stability for the moveable, heavy framed, optically perfect mirror.

This piece is available in several woods, in several stains, and will be a cherished addition to a bedroom or dressing room. Mission Cheval

If you move a lot, moving a door-mounted mirror takes great care and still it can break. With a mirror that is also a piece of furniture, you have a reliable addition to your life. It has been used as a space divider in small apartments, placed to increase the light in a dark area, reflecting nearby windows.

The Amish also make Chevals as jewelry style mirrors, with storage for jewelry and accessories, hooks, pegs and pockets all lined with anti-tarnish velvet.

Mission Clocks

Dramatic Time Keeping

The Amish make assorted styles of tall, grandfather like clocks.

Some, as you see here, have a series of dovetail drawers with shaker knobs or mission hardware, while still giving you the grandfather look and chime selections.

Others have glass paneled doors, like the one at the top of the lense, with moveable glass shelves and drawer storage.

The mission style of these clocks is a dramatic presentation of a true American classic style, and is sure to go well in so many decors, so many homes. It comes in several types of woods and a wide selection of stains.

The clocks themselves come in 4 chime styles and you can turn the chimes off at night.
