All of our forebears used home remedies for a variety of ailments and problems. For most of us these are lost lore. However, in the Amish community, home remedies are alive and well. Here you will find a growing list of them. Remember that no one is making a medical claim about any of these things, they are just the traditional home remedies that people used for years, especially if they didn't have access to, or money for, medical care.

- Ordinary vinegar is great for removing mildew or mold from leather shoes or coats. I'm sure that it could be used on other things...if it does so well on leather. Try white or apple cider vinegar...what have you got to lose?

- I am an old fashioned lady that ended up a single Mother. I ended up raising my youngest some while driving a semi-truck for several years. I believe in home remidies. I found "Amish Home Remidies" along the way and love it.
I burnt my arm just above the elbow on the underside of my arm. I touched it on the exhaust pipe of the truck. I could not see it, it did hurt, but, I was in a hurry and brushed it off as a minor incident.
The next day I discovered that the burn was worse than I thought. It had already blistered and the skin broke. It was weeping and leaking. I looked in the book and found that beets may help. I got some beets and it did help. The last few days of healing I did find an antiseptic to put on it. But the beet was what got me through. Not only did it help to heal but it seemed to take the sting out and it was cooling.
