All of our forebears used  home remedies for a variety of ailments and problems.  For most  of  us these are lost lore.  However,  in  the Amish community, home remedies are alive and well. Here you will find a growing list  of them.  Remember that no one is making a medical claim about any of these things,  they  are just the traditional home remedies that people used for years, especially if they didn't have access to, or  money for, medical care.

For Dogs and Cats

Mix 1 tsp of bone meal powder in their milk every day.

Make a tincture (strong tea) of either Black Walnut hulls, or of the inner bark. Wash the affected area twice a day for 2 weeks.

Mold or Mildew

For bathrooms, basements, moldy areas

1 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup bleach
2 qt. water

Mix well. Put in a spray bottle or soak your cleaning cloth. Soak the area well and leave overnight. Should remove it all, but if not, do it again.

I am an old fashioned lady that ended up a single Mother. I ended up raising my youngest some while driving a semi-truck for several years. I believe in home remidies. I found "Amish Home Remidies" along the way and love it.
I burnt my arm just above the elbow on the underside of my arm. I touched it on the exhaust pipe of the truck. I could not see it, it did hurt, but, I was in a hurry and brushed it off as a minor incident.
The next day I discovered that the burn was worse than I thought. It had already blistered and the skin broke. It was weeping and leaking. I looked in the book and found that beets may help. I got some beets and it did help. The last few days of healing I did find an antiseptic to put on it. But the beet was what got me through. Not only did it help to heal but it seemed to take the sting out and it was cooling.
