Stained Glass: Repaired and Reborn
One of the most fabulous things about glass is that it can be reborn if broken. I love to create glass pieces out of old, new, and found things. The possibilities are endless when it comes to glass and this is just an example of one piece of glass that was broken being renewed and reborn into another work of art.
Another neat feature of this piece is that I planned to not frame this piece with the traditional lead came. Instead I used a technique that takes a while to save up for to accomplish. Certain types of glasses usually come with uneven outer edges. These tend to be the more expensive glass pieces. For a long time I always just threw these in the trash until one day it hit me as to what to do with this edges that are so wonderful and truly a work of art themselves. So I designed my piece to embrace these unusal edges and decided to make stained glass pieces that are transformed by the edge of the framed glass. I love the organic shapes that they form and the unpredicted flow of the glass. Here is another one of my pieces using the same technique!
So for all of you who are wondering what to do with some of your lost items…recycle them and give them beauty instead of the trash!
