This Spring I visited some friends in Fairfax County, VA and they took me to visit Meadowlark Botanical Gardens which specializes in lilies. So I have included photos I took while at this park. What fun. We actually got caught in a down pour, but that's another story.
Lilies grow from bulbs. There are about 110 species in the lily or Liliaceae family. They prefer fairly acidic soil that is lime-free. They flower in late spring into summer.

Calla Lilies
Calla Lilies are also Known as Easter Lilies
Good for Sympathy Cards Too, also for Weddings and Funerals
Calla Lilies are famous for their trumpet shaped bloom. They are spectacular. They grow on long stems which are perfect for cut flowers. They are also pretty easy to grow. Callas are part of the Araceae family, which is not actually a lily after-all. They are native to South African marshes. When you grow them remember to water regularly.
I have a large artificial Calla Lily arrangement in my livingroom. Here is a photo of a live one I found in California. I have never seen one growing here in Colorado, where I live.
