I can hear you... What's a Squidoo Lens? What's a Giant Squid? What's a SquidAngel?

Well, I won't talk through the Giant Squid status here as this page relates to my new status of SquidAngel; which I really proud of! So I'm going to give few details on what's the Squidoo vocabulary.

What is a lens?

A lens is simply a Web page just like this one, it is hosted by Squidoo and people who join the Squidoo community are allowed to create these pages for free. In addition, they are provided with a bunch of modules that allow them to build these pages. These modules include a lot of options: texts, pictures, videos, products for sale, etc. When one builds a great Squidoo lens, we can have the chance to get some earnings: whenever we sell products, we can get a commission and if our "lens" is well ranked we can get a share of the community earnings spread by Squidoo. Obviously we are allowed to give all earnings to charities as it's Squidoo's speciality!

What is a lensmaster?

A lensmaster is someone who joined Squidoo and builds lenses.

What is a SquidAngel?

A SquidAngel is a lensmaster who volunteers to browse the entire Squidoo community of lenses and can bless or ding a lens. They're also allowed to report any "spammy" or "junk" lens!

What is a blessing and how does it affect my lens?

A blessing is simply a "thumbs up" or vote up, like a "bravo" for a lens of yours that we think is worth getting some love. Blessing a lens will give your lens a little temporary boost in the rankings. So if you create Squidoo lenses, make sure they're great... you might get the visit of an Angel!

What is dinging and how does it affect my lens?

Dinging a lens is a "thumbs down" or vote down, like a "no way, jose!" This can affect your lens as well as dinged lenses will see their ranking lower than it used to be.

How do I know you blessed my lens?

Personally - and all Angels are advised to do so - I'll leave a "blessed by a SquidAngel" in your guestbook along with my comment regarding your lens.

What if I'm new here and my lens doesn't meet the Squidoo standards?

Good question! I suggest you to turn your "contact" option on in your profile so that I can send you a private email. Mostly, I'll suggest you to join the SquidU forum so that you can introduce yourself to the community and then post your lens in the Critique Me section where you will get suggestions and advises on how to create a good lens.

So, you want to get a blessing... Well, in order for you to make sure to get your lens blessed by SquidAngel Prosperity66, here are a few things I look for in a lens.


• Your main Lensmaster profile is important so I'd like to learn more about you before going to your lenses. I also like to see your face or at least an avatar that represents who you are and/or what you do.


• Ads: please don't begin your Squidoo career by adding a bunch of promotional banners to your profile :) Obviously, and as an example, if you're an EzineArticle expert author, you're welcome to add a small badge to your profile.


• Enable the "contact" button so that I can send you an email whenever necessary.


• Your lens topic: I won't bless a lens that doesn't meet Squidoo's terms of service even if it's well done.


• Your lens content: I couldn't bless a lens which content isn't unique to Squidoo or the World Wide Web (I always check with a duplicate content checker), but you can rewrite your existing content posted elsewhere. I'll never bless a lens that includes stolen content, of course.


• Lens attractiveness: I'll more likely bless a lens that looks "sexy" --> I like lenses that have one picture per module, but I know that some topics are hard to find pictures of so I won't be dinging or not blessing a lens for this reason. Let's say that having a lot of big pictures (i.e. 300x200 pixels) attract my eyes.


• The way you interact with your readers: the more you talk to them the more you'll please to me. The more your lens will look like a sales or self-promotion page, the less I'd like it.


• Some might think that is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder but I really like well formatted lenses so pay attention to line breaks, paragraphs, bulleted and/or numbered lists, etc. Actually, I'm a secretary so I learned how to format a page and think it's highly important for your reader to see a nicely formatted page.


• I'll also check your lens biography, so try to adapt it to the topic of each lens. In addition, I'll also look at your picture or avatar - whenever you use an avatar try to use one that fits the lens topic.


• You won't be penalized for this but when you create a lens, try to select the best theme - we have a nice selection of available themes - but don't worry, if I think the theme doesn't match our lens topic, I'll tell you by hitting the "contact" button in your lensmaster profile.

Basically, you have nothing else to do than what we've been talking through the previous chapter! But don't think that being a SquidAngel is as easy as just wearing the wings of an Angel...

Here's how I see things: I won't bless a lens because you would have commented on a lens of mine. I only bless lenses that are worth a boost. Getting a lens blessing from me doesn't imply that you're required to come to my lenses and add rating and/or comments: I blessed your lens because I definitely loved it and because I can't kiss you for having built it;) And I only want you to come visit my lenses if you want and love them.

Whenever I bless a lens of a friend of mine, don't think that it is because we're friends: I appreciate my friends but they know they won't get something if the lens isn't worth some additional love!

You and I aren't friends, you don't appreciate me, you've been an Angel and never blessed a lens of mine or we've already got some arguments... Nothing could prevent me from blessing your best lenses. NOTHING!

I'm doing this job to ensure that the entire Squidoo community keeps their high quality standards and reputation!

This angel on Squidoo has blessed your lens... Now what?

Well instead of the previous SquidAngels - and probably my fellow SquidAngels, I won't offer the opportunity to add your lens link to a plexo here. What I'm going to do is simply this: I created a blog especially for my SquidAngel status. Each and every day, I'll post up to five lenses I blessed - these will be the ones I like best. The blog is hosted by Blogger, I'll never take it down and, unless Google takes Blogger down, the link will remain forever - even when my time as a SquidAngel will come to an end.

What will you do with the lenses that you won't feature on the blog?

All blessed lenses will be added to my An Angel on Squidoo Facebook Fan Page; while some of them might be added to Article Troll; which will give you a backlink --> I often do that as they require someone else's link when one adds our own. Some may also get a blacklink from another place I blog or a social bookmarking site that allows "do follow" linking.

I won't ask you to feature me on your lens, nor create a lens to list the blessings you've got from me: for as long as you're happy with my blessings, my heart will feel merry! But if you still want to tell the world that your lens got blessed by me, feel free to download the graphic on the right and place it into a nice module on your lens along with a short text that shows how proud you are of your achievement and if you still want to link, link to the main Prosperity66 Lensmaster Profile.

Also, don't link to my blog from your lens: I want you to get a one way backlink to your lens.

Although my angel status came to an end on April 2010, I recently was assigned a new angeling session. This time, I was assigned the World History neighbourhood; which means that any lens categorized in:

Culture & Society --> History --> World History

and worthy a blessing will receive my signature. So, take an eye on your lenses, if you built a fantastic page about what happened in the world since the first time life appeared on Earth! However, this doesn't stop here! Any lens that relates to things to do with historical facts, whether personal or public may also fall on my angeling list.
