"So," she said. "You met your brother."
"You know," said Fat Charlie, "you could have warned me."
"I did warn you that he is a god."
"You didn't mention that he was a complete and utter pain in the arse, though"
Summary And Review Of Anansi Boys
Synopsis of Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
Fat Charlie Nancy (who isn't fat, but old nicknames tend to hang around) hasn't seen his Dad for years. Charlie thinks this is a good thing, after all, it always seemed to him that his father's main ambition in life was to embarrass him.
Fat Charlie's Dad loved a good time. He loved the ladies, he loved to tell stories and he loved to sing. When Charlie hears the news of his fathers untimely death during a karaoke session, he has no idea that his life will suddenly change beyond all recognition.
Not only does he find out that he has a brother he has never met (called Spider), but he also learns that his father was actually the anthropomorphic personification of Anansi the Spider God...Spider and Fat Charlie are the Anansi Boys
When Fat Charlie finally meets his long lost brother (who, unlike Fat Charlie, was the sole inheritor of their father's God status), he realises that Spider is everything he would like to be but isn't - handsome, rich, charming, successful and hugely attractive to women. When Spider starts trying to take over Fat Charlie's life, his identity, his job and worst of all his fiancee Rosie, he dcides to do something about it...
Charlie's quest for revenge leads him to four very eccentric old ladies and their own special brand of Voodoo. Between them they unleash a very old and dark force to get rid of Spider...but will Charlie find that he may have bitten off more than he can chew?...

Reviews Of Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
Anansi Boys reviews and book critiques
- "Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman - Salon.com
- A hybrid of folklore and farce, the latest from the author of "American Gods" unfurls the story of Fat Charlie, a pitiful working bloke who's the son of a trickster god.
- Anansi Boys: About.com
- Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys is tremendously entertaining. Set in the same universe as his last novel, 2001's multiple-award-winning American Gods, Anansi Boys is both shorter and funnier. Whereas American Gods was essentially a road-trip novel, albeit one involving cast-away deities from world mythology, Anansi Boys is a mismatched-buddy comedy. Though the book incorporates bits of romantic comedy, crime drama, and horror, among other genres, the heart of the story is the tale of two startlingly different brothers
- Anansi Boys | The A.V. Club
- Neil Gaiman's lighthearted semi-sequel to his 2000 novel American Gods follows a bunch of mythic tricksters through the contemporary world.

Awards won by Anansi Boys and why Neil Gaiman declined a Hugo nomination...
The Mythopoeic Awards for Best Novel 2006
The 2006 YALSA ALEX Award
The British Fantasy Society's August Derleth Award 2006
Anansi Boys received sufficient votes for a nomination for a Hugo Award but Neil Gaiman declined the offer, stating in his online journal:
"...partly I did it because I have three Hugos already, and I felt it was better to get more names on the ballot that weren't mine, and partly because I think I feel more comfortable when the things of mine that get Hugo nominations are marginally closer to SF than to pure fantasy..."
Rumours Of An Anansi Boys Film!
Will there be a movie version of Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys?
"Gaiman had offers to make a film out of his 2005 best seller Anansi Boys, about the sons of an African god discovering their magical background while living in the corrupt modern world, but moviemakers wanted to change the lead black characters to white or drop the magical elements altogether.
"I don't need the money," Gaiman says. "Not needing the money puts me in a magical place because I can say no. I like the idea of having good movies made or having no movies made."

- I actually read "Anansi Boys" before reading "American Gods". Although I knew some of the legends, I really enjoyed the tale Gaiman crafted around Anansi. Great job on this lens!
