There are 10 systems of the body. A great way to learn them is with the word: C-REMINDERS. Each letter represents a system.

C- Circulatory System

R- Reproductive System
S- Skeletal System

Each system has a special function in the body, and you can learn how they not only work alone, but how they interconnect and work together!

One of the top books I recommend to anyone interested in anatomy is Frank Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. It's one of THE best!

If you're looking for physiology book, I love "Anatomy of Movement" for understanding movement.

Pathology is the study of diseases

Did you know you have 206 bones in your body? You also have both movable joints, and unmovable joints!

Your skeletal system works for you by giving your body shape and support. Many muscles attach to your skeletal system, it helps produce blood cells, and it protects some of your internal organs.

Your muscular system is comprised of over 600 muscles! There are different types of muscles. The cardiac muscle is involuntary, while most others are voluntary. You have many different types of muscles in your body.

Muscles have three parts, a non-moving part called the origin, a belly (the center of the muscle) and the insertion, which is the movable end.

Your circulatory system includes your heart, lymph system and blood vessels. Blood travels through your body providing you with oxygen, food and nutrients. It has multiple jobs such as keeping your body temperature where it should be, helping control bacteria with white blood cells, and removes waste and carbon dioxide.

The respiratory system helps bring in oxygen, and remove carbon dioxide. We use our breathing passages such as our nasal passages, our trachea, and then our lungs. Our diaphragm helps control breathing also.

The nervous system is made up of our nerves, our brain and our spinal cord. Nerves help us react to impulses, feel things, and respond properly. Some of our nerves work both voluntarily and involuntarily.

There are excellent sources on the web for you to learn anatomy. One site I find very cool is Anatomy.tv. If you haven't checked out this interactive site, it's well worth a visit.

An exhibit you'll find around the country, and just an incredible learning experience is called Bodyworlds. You can find their website here, and usually see their exhibit in a museum. We saw it when it came around to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, and it was nothing less than incredible!

Your endocrine system is your gland system. These glands secrete hormones into your body and send messages.

The digestive system breaks down food you eat into waste and nutrients. Your body uses enzymes to help break down the food in your body.

The reproductive system helps you reproduce. Both internally and externally the male and female have different organs and parts of the reproductive system.

The excretory system includes your kidneys and liver. The job of the excretory system is to remove waste from your body.
