hike and retreat around sacred ancient sites

Where I live around southern Co. Sligo and into western Co. Roscommon in Ireland there is a remarkable collection of 3000 to 6000 year old megalithic circles, passage cairns, ancient mounds, sacred wells, monastic sites, fairy rings, wooden covens, along with our wonderful variety of trees, flora, views and wildlife.

At some viewpoints, on a clear day, visitors enjoy a view of up to 18 Irish counties.

Here, I am creating a portal to introduce you these sacred places of wonder through discoveries, stories, videos, photographs and even some music.

I hope you will enjoy this and may even consider visiting and staying in our area for a few days as part of your visit to Ireland, or even a complete vacation here. You can be here and do plenty without the expense of a car.

If you live in Ireland do consider being here for a few days retreat.

If you live in Europe there are now inexpensive flights from many airports to our local Knock airport, and you do not need to rent a car to cause you extra expense.

to start the journey

This is a new feature, a new lens, that I am working on. Soon I will publish my many collected stories, photograph albums and video clips here.

The main legends of our area and linked to the sites of our area are ...

  • Morrigan and the Birth Of Bhride (the goddess Brighid)
  • other deed of The Morrigu, the Morrigan, the Triple Hag
  • The romance of Dearmuid and Grainne
  • The deeds of the Tuatha De Dannan
  • The Second Battle Of Moytura
  • The Sidhe Hills of the Faeries and the Sidhe Horses to Tir na Nog
  • Lasir's Well of Vision
  • The deeds of Dagda and his Harp
  • Ogma's School of Ogham
  • the more modern Flight of the Earls and Battle of the Curlews
  • Airmhid, Mother Of Herbs

... and many more inspiring tales we could tell you from around here
