And the Oscar Goes too....

2012 84th Oscar Academy Awards

I love the Oscar's because I love movies! I'm a member of a local film society, I watch a lot of independent films, and I hardly miss a year at the Sundance Film Festival. I like to see how movies rate with the Academy each year. Below are some of this year's nominees with a few of my own opinions on some of the movies. This list doesn't include all of the categories, just a few of my favorites. Cheers!

Best Motion Picture of the Year: 1-5

My personal prediction was for The Descendants or War Horse. However, the winner was The Artist. I saw this movie on the morning of the Oscars. I really liked the movie and thought the actors all did wonderfully. It was a treasure to watch a film without a lot of talking and there was a lot of substance to the movie. However, it felt a bit lacking in human emotion to me. I didn't really connect to the characters. To me, a good movie is one that makes me feel something deeply, where I resonate in the story. I think The Descendants should have one.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role

I predict Glenn Close will win this one, and I was wrong. Meryl Streep won the award for the movie, The Iron Lady. Although I didn't see this movie, I do plan on it.

Best Performance of an Actor in a Leading Role

I haven't seen all of these movies, so I can't give a fair prediction. However, I'm cheering for George Clooney....hee, hee.....blushing.....and I was wrong again! Jean DuJardin won the award for his performance in The Artist. I did see this movie and Jean did an outstanding job, but I just didn't connect to this movie or the characters. I know alot of people feel the George Clooney's character wasn't believable, but it was too me because I know business people and I know 'haoles' from Hawaii. I thought he did an outstanding job of being the character.

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year

I was cheering for Rango and was so happy to see it won the award. I thought it was clever, whitty and amusing. Anything Johnny Depp does is golden. Rango has a perfect balance of kid and adult humor and every person should have a copy of this movie in their home. Really...go get it. :)

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score

The winner was The Artist. I definitely agree with this as the music is what made the movie and what spoke for the characters....GOOD ON YA, THE ARTIST!

Best Achievement in Visual Effects

Hugo was the winner in Visual Effects. I thought this was a great choice and I thought it would have been Hugo or Harry Potter. Hugo was so whimsical and I almost felt like a child in awe of what I saw on the screen during this movie.

Best Achievement in Art Direction

Hugo was the winner in this category to which I agree and thought would win although I thought War Horse could have easily won it too. However, there was something so magical in Hugo that resonated deeply.

Meryll deserved her Oscar, watching her play Thatcher makes my skin crawl as much as watching the real thing in action did. I still haven't seen any of the others to even comment, none of them make me want to jump up and rent them. 2011 was quite weak for decent movies I thought.
