Andersenove pravljice / Andersen's Fairy Tales (Bilingual!)
Hans Christian Andersen is one of the greatest, if not the greatest fairy tale writer of all times. He added a lot of emotions and intelligent humor In children's literature. Even some are saying he succeded mostly by coincidence and his works will be forgotten in a century or two, we will try to present his work and some of his most known fairy tales in the form of quizzes. We will of course add numerous links to his works.

Kot pevec in plesalec je Andersen povsem odpovedal, njegove drame so ze davno utonile v pozabo, a kot pesnika ga vsaj na Danskem se vedno zelo cenijo. Kaj pa vemo o njegovem zasebnem zivljenju?
As a singer and dancer Andersen completely failed, his plays are long forgotten, but as a poet he is still very valued at least in Denmark. And what do we know about his private life?

The renowned and sometimes controversial theorist Bruno Bettelheim excludes number of Andersen's number of Andersen's fairy tales from the list of fairy tales because they do not have a happy ending. However, we can not challenge their comforting effect.

Andersen kot druzbeni kritik
Andersen as critic of society
In Thumbelina we can see another feature of Andesen's fairy tales: the conflict of different social classes. He came from poor family and even though he mingled a lot between nobles and rich, he was really never accepted in high society. He always felt like a guest, who can be send away at any time.

Bi morale imeti vse pravljice srecne konce? / Should all fairy tales end with happy ending?
Pravljice morajo imeti srecen konec, sicer niso pravljice. / Fairy tales should have happy ending, otherwise they are not fairy tales.

When I was a child I really wanted an happy ending in the fairy tales..... I know it's more educative to have also fairy tales without it, but I'm too romantic to consider them!!! :)

Fairy tales need not end unhappily. Life will present enough sad endings for children.

- I remember seeing a movie about him as a kid. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for imaginative people. Think of the money he could have made authoring children's books on Amazon had he been alive today!

- He wasn't actually poor in his days... But he was also a proof money can't give you happiness. His problem was his private life and non stop feeling he doesn't belong to any social circle.
