History of Android

The Android Operating System was created by Danger co-founder Andy Rubin, co-founder of Wildfire Communications Rich Milner and former VP of T-Mobile Nick Sears in 2003. Android didn't release much in the following two years, except stating that they were only working on software for mobile phones. In mid 2005 Android was acquired by Google Inc, which meant that Android was wholly owned by Google Inc. This move was Google's forward plan to move into the world of mobile phones. All three co-founders are still working alongside Google technicians on the Android Operating System

Android Market

The Android Market is one of the most popular products developed by Google and is preloaded onto all Android Devices. The Android Market was released in October 2008 to 29 different countries. By March 2009 the Android Market had approximately 2,300 apps, by December 2009 it had more than 20,000 apps, by August 2010 it had over 80,000 apps and by May 2011 it had 294,000 apps and over 3, 000, 000 downloads.
One of the most exciting things about the Android Market is that ANYONE can make an Android app and publish it, which is great for amateur developers or people with a good knowledge of programing.
In comparison to Apples App Store, the figures for the Android Market are much more promising such as 57% of the apps are free as opposed to 28% on the App store. Currently the Android Market has just over 300,000 Apps and Apple has 382, 000 apps, however in April 2011 the Android Market 28, 000 new apps as opposed to the App Stores 11, 000. If these figures continue by the end of September 2011 the Android Market will have more apps than Apples App Store.

The Android Operating System is currently installed on over 100 different types of Smartphones. Some of the big names include Acer, Dell, HTC, i-Mobile, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Pantech, Samsung and Sony Eriksson. The HTC, Samsung and Sony Eriksson have majority of there smartphones on Android and others on Windows Operating system. I Personally own a HTC Desire running on the Android Operating system. i have had a lot of experience with smartphones such as iPhones and Blackberrys, however i believe that the mixture of HTC and Android is definitely the best.
