in reply to Lindsay The problem with comparing Miles and the Beatles is the different cultures behind the pop/rock/rebellion of the Beatles to participatory sophistication of Miles. Not an apples to apples comparison. Miles was viewed as thought leader and innovator by other musicians who aspired to perform in one of his legendary groups. Performing with Miles could propel a young musician to fame: Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Mingus, etc, etc, etc. The Beatles influence was more focused on public perception and the relationship with fans.
