The Who's Who of Squidoo's Angels

Know thy Angels

Get to know the SquidAngels! We are a small group of dedicated lensmasters with special powers to bless remarkable lenses for a little LensRank (and ego) boost. We also help to keep Squidoo safe from spam and other bad apples.

Did you know?: Every Angel has been entrusted to apply their own quality standards in deciding if and how they work their magic.

This Who's Who serves as a quick overview of active or retired SquidAngels and their unique approach to "angeling". It will help you learn quickly how to best get their attention, and hopefully their Blessing!

For more information about the SquidAngel program in general, and individual "angeling" advice in particular, please consult our Heavenly Links list.

And now, meet the Angels...

P.S.: I apologize if the formatting on this lens seems a bit out of whack. Squidoo just introduced new templates and I haven't found the time to fix the broken layout. I hope to get to it soon.

Glossary

What's the meaning of all this?

Angelification:The date this lensmaster was appointed as SquidAngel

Bless Trigger Index:Measured on a Scale from 1 to 7

Angels set their own quality bar when considering a lens for blessing. This index should give you an idea of the degree of perceived worthiness required to trigger the Angel's blessing reflex. 1 - being the most lenient, where almost any lens is considered if their lensmaster asks nicely enough. 7 - being the strictest, where only magnificent lenses by accomplished lensmasters stand a chance.

Modus Operandi:The preferred method of operation

Secret Agent - You might never know if and when this Angel was there
Ambassador - Rewards consistent quality and spreads goodwill
Talent Scout - Always on the lookout for fresh talent
Mentor/Adviser - Likes to offer encouragement and advice

There may be others, but these are the most common ones.

Status:Active or Retired

Angels serve for a limited term. Retired Angels have great experience and are a valuable resource for fresh Squids and seasoned lensmasters alike.

Module Divider

Sometimes, the angelic gate keeper of this lens is not up to speed as things do get a little hectic when a batch of new SquidAngels arrive. Some Angels choose not to be listed here so this list is not necessarily complete.

If you would like to leave a general comment, please scroll all the way down to the Angelic Guestbook. The angelic walls should be reserved for messages to that particular SquidAngel. Thank you!

And now, without further ado, here are your past and current Angels!

What I look for in a Lens:The most important traits I look for in a lens are as follows:

1. The lens is a complete package:
- The bio is well written and complete.
- The modules don't have default titles.
- The lens isn't spammy, or just about your widget.
- The lens is laid out and designed with some thought going into it.

2. The lens isn't just another remake of another lens on the same topic with the same data just rearranged differently.

3. The lens title, topic, and modules all agree with the main focus of the lens.
- The affiliate products offered in the different types of modules are topically relevant to the lens topic.

4. Creativity and eye catching effects in text layout and pictures which enhance the overall quality of the lens.

5. All the links work and aren't broken.

6. The lens offers something that is positive to its readers.

7. The lens will increase the value and quality of Squidoo above everything else.

What I look for in a Lens:I am looking for lots of good, helpful info with ORIGINAL content and proper credits and acknowledgements.

The Lens needs to leave me with something that does not depend on me clicking out elsewhere, such as to your website, in order to gain anything. If you are not sure then ask yourself if you took all the links out, would the Lens be of any value to ME. It might not be of value to you - but that is not what this is about.

I am looking after Lenses in categories that are loaded with similar Lenses and topics. You need to make your lens stand out from your competition and if you are promoting a product that you have not personally used then you are very unlikely to get a blessing.

This Angel loves personal stories and personal recommendations and has been known to bless Lenses that may not be technically perfect but because they are just well, special.

What I look for in a Lens:I look for a combination of great writing, knowledge, enthusiasm for the subject, interesting subject matter, and basically a lens that is well put together.

A lens would have to show me that the lensmaster has spent some time learning how to 'craft a lens'. So ones with basic mistakes or default titles most likely wouldn't get a Blessing even if the rest of the content was good.

You don't have to be a Giant, or even have to have been on Squidoo for very long. Just have a great lens which shows that you have taken time and care.

I am more inclined to Bless those who are showing a commitment to Squidoo by participating in the community either on SquidU or by commenting in guestbooks.

I enjoy spreading my Angel wings around Squidoo and it is always exciting when I find a lensmaster's work that I haven't noticed before. It is easy just to go back to the familiar faces because I know they create consistently excellent lenses, but I want to find new ones too!

What I look for in a Lens:Lenses are like any other web page out there -- they have to grab your attention, hold it, and have you coming back for more. Creativity, storytelling, good graphics, proper grammar and uniqueness go a long way.

Specifically for a Squidoo lens, the bio pic should be uploaded, the bio should be filled out, the intro should consist of at least a few sentences, and an intro picture (properly credited) are all essential.

Default module titles are a pet peeve with all of us Angels! A guestbook will also help me drop by and tells me you are open to communication.

I love them organized, well-planned, and extensive.

I love original content; nothing copied.

I love accurate, helpful information.

I love friendliness.

I love photographs and artwork.

I love lenses that clearly represent the best in the topic they're in.

I love lenses that are used to tell a personal story that might help others.

I love lenses that focus on the odd and unusual, off-beat, weird, and unique things of life.

What I look for in a Lens:The basics: bio filled out, bio picture, guestbook, no default module titles, proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Original written content, not just a bunch of links, videos and photos - video showcases should have at least some content to introduce the videos.

Good organization - a decent intro (even if it's short) with a photo or graphic, real content before links to buy stuff, table of contents at or near the top and guestbooks at or near the bottom.

Relevant graphics, properly credited where necessary.

Use of HTML/CSS - this shows you've put some thought into making your lens appealing - just make sure it's working correctly.

What I look for in a Lens:
* There is some picture in the introduction module

* Have unique content - not copy pasted from all over the internet

* Be illustrated appropriately: depending on your content. I especially like it if pictures on your lens look like you made them yourself - they should have a unique style.

* Be personal - lenses that show your character have a far higher chance of being blessed than lenses that just summarize your topic. Though if you summarize well, you might still be blessed.

* Have enough content: I don't think I've ever seen a bless-worthy lens with less than 5 text/write modules

* Don't have sales modules or affiliate links that sell stuff not related to the content of your lens

* The contents of the lens are truthful and wholesome.

What I look for in a Lens:A great lens in my book is very streamlined. It has a smooth and logical flow from start to finish. The content should be focused on one subject and not try to cover too many different things at the same time.

Be true to your lens title and introduction. If it turns out that the content does not fulfill the promise of the title the visitor will quickly turn away and look elsewhere. And so will I.

Others have already mentioned it, but it's worth repeating: Pictures and graphics make all the difference. If the lens is about travel, I want to see nice, big pictures. Not just thumbnails.

If you're trying to sell me something, tell me about the product first before putting an affiliate link in my path.

This lens is PERFECT for the Masterpiece Movement Group. All of these lensmasters are already masterpieces in their own right. I'm so pleased that you've presented them so beautifully! Missing a few comment sections, though... JeffWend has been so helpful and prominent at Squidoo, I LOVE kab, jimmie and especially Janet21! Great angels all the way around!
