    Hawks, Owls, Mockingbirds, Hummingbirds and Dragon Flies are my most dominant animal companions. "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews to which you link above is an excellent book on the topic of Animal Totems. Great lens.

    I love your lens - I do believe in animal guides. My friends had a greyhound (rescued ex-racer). As soon as I looked into his eyes, I knew he was an old soul. I loved that dog and he truly loved me - he never licked but had a habit of leaning on me to let me know how much he cared!

    I'm not too sure what my animal totem is, but I am visited in dreams by lions, snakes, and spiders. I also have had very interesting encounters with wildlife in day to day living. You have inspired me to write and share some of these experiences in a lens. Thanks!

    Very interesting! Reminds me of a documentary I saw on National Geographic with a cheetah (or something alike) that took over the role of the mother of an orphaned antelope.

    I loved reading this beautifully written lens. White Oak you have a gift for writing. This is such a poetic and wonderful tale of how you found your Animal Totem. This is something that has fascinated me for quite some time. I love the idea that all things are interconnected.My teacher is the crayfish and feelings are the gift. Exceptional Lens! I loved it.

    Heather, that is fancinating to know. It is interesting how you seen the black wing, and feel the connection with the hawk. Besides the hawk, I also have a strong connection with Raven and Crow-Both of their wings are black as is the "Peace Spreader" as GreyHawk use to call them (the vulcher sp?)

    Loved this lens whiteoak! After doing many meditations trying to connect with my gatekeeper, I do believe that my animal todem is a tiger and that my body protector is a hawk. I've journeyed myself to the underworld in search of my animal todem and couldn't find my todem, but after a month of meditation, I did get a tiger and a hawk. At least I believe it to be a hawk....all I ever see is a large black wing covering me as I merge with it. I get the sense that it is a hawk. Would also explain why I always see hawks all the time!

    It has probably been ten years ago since this happened. I had picked up Ted Andrew's Animal Speak and was reading the book. One day I read about how animal spirit totems can come to light when someone survives an attack. Within 24 hours I went to visit a woman I worked with and her landlord owned a macaw, and the bird chose that day to attack me. I managed to get out of the situation with a minor scar and not scaring the bird worse. What amazed me was I'd known this bird for a long time and he'd never taken a bite out of me until within 24 hours of my reading Ted Andrews book. I don't believe in coincidence. Especially since Ted Andrew's descriptions in Animal Speak fit my life. To this day I have a feather hanging in my vehicle (peacefully gotten) from a macaw to remind me not to be shy and quiet. Nice lens featuring great subject matter!

    Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I found the list of medicine teachers very interesting, particularly in how the majority of them corrospond in some way to the Western Zodiac. I've always leaned towards the wild canines ("kitsune" = "fox" in Japanese) and cats, but only recently have I started looking into animal totems, and as your story with the dolphins shows, what we like and what is ours isn't always the same thing. 5*, and please keep sharing as you continue your journey!

    Great lens and yes, there is a connection. Crows/ravens keep following me about, others think it is a bad sign when they see them, but I know better. I love my animals, even the lowly mouse has something to teach me, not just the eagle. 5* great topic, well done.

    Did I tell you that your journey to the underworld to meet with your animal totems is almost exactly the same journey I went on??? I thought I'd write a lens about it, you know, to show you my beautiful Ilona... and I will... I wonder if there are other journeys to go on, to meet these totems? You see, I am quite a novice! :)

    Namaste, WhiteOak. I just reread your lens about being so certain about the dolphin... I have been blessedly close to dolphins, actually stroking them in WA, with a toddler on my hip and a baby in my belly. One dolphin nudged my belly, quite hard, I'm sure that due to his ultrasound vision he knew I was pregnant!Still, I'm not sure that a dolphin is my totem any more... just a most amazing creature, worthy of immense admiration!

    Hello WhiteOak :) Thank you for your feedback. I have a beautifil, wise, and powerful totem animal, too, which I will now write a lens about, as that is the only way I know how to show a drawing of her to everyone. She is a beautiful Sooty Owl... a local rainforest owl, who I drew to life on the page in front of me, after I'd done a Journey to receive my totem animal with a blessed bunch of women and Grandmother WindHawk. She has taught me so much... Well, Grandmother and Ilona have both taught me many lessons. Love your lenses... so informative... thank you :)

    I have Animal Speak and have referred to it many times in the past and present. Right now I am drawn to giraffes. My favoite animals and their medicine is on my animal medicine lens.

    Yes karmaherbs, we have many animal totems throughout our life for different things we are experiencing. I have always had Hawk with me because of the messages I get from the spirit world. To this day I know Wolf is still with me, sort of like a silent guide. I am actually writing something now about how hummingbird was once with me, bear has been with me, coyote, turtle, and raven at one time. Today, dragonfly is strong in my life. I hope this helps to answer your question. Blessings.

    Amazing! I loved reading about your journey. I believe the wolf is an animal spirit guide of mine, but I have not had that confirmed. Question: Could you have an animal guide like the wolf; at some point in your life, and then a different animal guide at another point?
