Oh, the classic 80s and 90s anime series that I loved
When I was a kid growing up in the 90s, it seemed as though I only had one option: play with Barbies.
My parents always thought that it was weird that not only I didn't really like playing with Barbies, but that I used cellophane paper to envelope them and put aluminum foil helmets over their pretty heads so they'd look like the Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya), or, if I went beyond that, I'd turn them into my favorite mecha characters.
So, as you see, my obsession with anime and manga (and Star Wars, of course) started when I was very little.

What do all classic 80s and 90s anime have in common?
I loved Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac), Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Mazinger Z , Samurai X, and Dragon Ball Z.All these series had a fantastic theme based on stars and the space, as their inspiration came from the Space era of idealism, in that man could get anywhere if he could get to the Moon.
Or in the case of Yu Yu Hakusho, a supernatural one. The heros or heroines always struggled to get stronger to battle against an ultimate evil that represented the possible destruction of humanity.
Looking back, their premise was simple, yet powerful. It was a completely different style of conventional cartoon that invited me to follow a plot and reach conclusions based on a character. Because being a kid was not only about watching Bugs Bunny or Willy E. Coyote.
Did you watch anime when you were a kid?
