Different Kinds of Anime Statues

There are a few!

Not all statues are the same, you know. Some are designed to be in direct proportion to their anime counterparts. Others have clothes and objects that can be removed completely! There are types that have full wardrobes, different faces and interchangeable parts, and there are other types that are movable, like an action figure. What are the different types, and how do they differ?

Below is an example of each type of statue, and what makes them different from other statues.

Scaled PVC Figures

Scaled PVC Figures

The majority of statues are scaled PVC figures. These usually do not require any assembly, and are ready to go right when you get them. All that is necessary is that you remove them from their boxes, and prepare them for viewing!

These usually come in scaled in certain sizes. The majority are in 1/6 or 1/7 scale, which means they are approximately 1/6th or 1/7th the size the projected character would be. Some figures can come as little as 1/10th scale (or smaller, but I've yet to see any in that size), and as large as 1/4th! An image can be seen of the lovely Xiao Mei from the Shining Hearts game. She is scaled at 1/7.

The price of these figures vary by scale. Smaller ones (1/8 or 1/7) can be anywhere from $30USD to $120USD, depending on the detail. If you are looking at the 1/4 or 1/6 scale figures, expect a bigger price tag; $70USD to $200USD, or possibly more. You can check out this anime statue site for more examples of Scaled PVC figures.

Cast Off Figures; PVC Variations

The next category of statues is cast offs. And, it's exactly as it sounds like! These figures have parts that are removable or replaceable. These figures have the same standards as regular scaled figures, in that they are scaled, usually 1/6 or 1/7 size.

The main difference here is the removal of items. These figures tend to be sexually suggestive figures, meaning that they are perverted and may show nudity. For example, the figure showed to the side is from the famous Lucky Star series. The character, Tsukasa Hiiragi, is shown wearing her school P.E. uniform. This is a 1/4 scale PVC (making it HUGE), and it costs approximately $180 USD! However, what makes this a cast off is that the clothing (which is made from real cloth, by the way) can be removed. There is no nudity featured in this figure, just the undergarments. If you would like to see more examples, check out this cast off figure collection, that's updated quite often.

The prices for these figures will typically be the same as the regular PVC figures.

Figmas

Next up is a brand called figmas. This is a brand created by the company Max Factory, one of the main statue manufacturers.

As you can see by the lovely Hatsune Miku displayed here, she's much different than the scaled PVC figures. Figmas have joints, which allow them to move into different positions, unlike the regular scaled figures. Also, these figmas tend to have more parts that can be interchanged. For example, the head may be replaceable with a different face. This figure can do that. Other parts are usually interchangeable as well. For more examples of figmas, check out this figma website that updates everytime a new one is updated!

The prices of these figures vary, but are usually relatively cheap. Usually anywhere from $20USD to $50USD.

Nendoroids

The last type of anime figure I'm going to discuss is called a nendoroid. These were created by Good Smile Company, another large producer of anime statues and goods.

This type of statue is similar to the figma in the sense that there are many removable and exchangeable parts. Also, these figures have joints, so that you can also change the figure's position. The figure displayed here, Lynette Bishop from the series Strike Witches. These figures are very small, usually less than the size of one's hand. This nendoroid website is really good at updating every time a new nendroid is released.

The prices of these usually run the same as figmas. Although, they usually do not pass $50USD (at least with the current exchange rate!)

That's awesome! I have a few nendoroids myself, including a Kuroneko one, and a Black Rock Shooter one. :)

Very nice post. I really love figmas, but PVC ones are very beautiful too.

Thanks! Actually, I've never purchased a figma... I'm not sure why, yet. I think it's because of the appearance of the joints... but, I really like the Hatsune Miku figma I posted above and am seriously considering a purchase o.o"
