Who is Anita Blake?
Anita Blake is a tough as nails vampire slayer and an animator. She is short, petite, and can damn well take care of herself. She gets into more than her fair share of danger in her line of work.
Anita is also a licensed vampire execution and a federal marshal. She has a badge, a gun (sometimes several), and she can take on centuries old vampires without blinking an eye.
Sound like an interesting woman? You bet! Anita is the main character in the Anita Blake series written by Laurell K Hamilton. This fast paced and charming story is something you don't want to miss.
If you have not yet discovered the Anita Blake series, be sure to read on to find out more about Anita and her cast of characters in this incredible set of novels.
Vampires, and Werewolves, and Magic, Oh My!
Vampires, shapeshifters, witches, zombies, and magic... Fantasies and myths, right? Not in the world of Anita Blake. Imagine modern day St. Lewis with a twist. An alternate reality that will bring you chills and thrills. The things that go bump in the night are real. Enter a world where vampires are citizens with legal rights. They own businesses, have families, and lead normal lives.
And don't forget the shapeshifters. Werewoves, weretigers and lions, wererats, and werebears. Lycanthropy is a disease and those who have it turn furry once a month. When? At the full moon, of course.
Learn about vampire politics and the inner workings of the lycanthrope community. Discover an alternate world filled with fantasy and possibilities. And meet characters that will capture your fascination and your heart.
"Vampires call me The Executioner. What I call them isn't repeatable."
Why I Love Anita Blake
The Anita Blake storyline is a mix of mystery, fantasy, magic, horror and romance. The author Laurell K Hamilton has melded these genres together to create a fantastic and intriguing world. Follow Anita through 17 novels (so far) as she tries to take care of the monsters and her love life in her humorous and witty style. You will fall in love with this ongoing story.
I highly recommend that you check out this incredible author and her wonderful storyline. Laurell K Hamilton has done an outstanding job with this series of novels. Find a comfortable chair, a good lamp, and plan on spending the next few days falling head over heels for Anita Blake and her cast of characters.
Anita Blake 16, Blood Noir, was released in June (2008) and is a fantastic addition to the series. Skin Trade, Anita Blake 17, will be released in June of 2009 and I expect it will continue the story in fine fashion as well. I do suggest reading the books in order, because the storyline flows from one to the next.
"You don't volunteer for slugfests with vampires. It shortens your life expectancy."

Kris Vega says:
I think what I appreciate most about Anita is her tactical skill. Whatever power or trick she uses is backed up by her quick draw thinking. With a pistol ... she's pretty much a modern samurai. She started off as a shooter with a neat trick she could do at night, but evolved into a woman with many advantages. Yet she retains the knowledge that ... a bad guy with a gun can end it all. So she won't be sloppy (yet makes mistakes still).
LKH has done a great job in studying the psychology behind human survival instincts and it is evident in the way she sculpted Anita. She controls the dangerous instincts and uses the good ones whenever she is in a jam.
My second favorite "Anita" thing is that she's always getting some kind of new power :p I'm always guessing at what kind of power she will get next. Because when she does get one ... it usually means that some monster is gonna get the whammy real soon.
I just wish the "boss" villains got more page dedication. I really liked Chimera.

Another fine Anita Blake review! And a nice new addition to Review Central. I've said it before but this time I really will look miss Hamilton up - I even wrote it down this time. =)

I enjoy a good Gothic Romance. I've read some of Anita Blake's books but not all of them. I need to go back and pick up the rest of them.
