Anne Frank: The Whole Story

Anne Frank The Whole Story Movie Review

This Anne Frank film stars Ben Kingsley, Brenda Blethyn and Hannah Taylor Gordon and is a Walt Disney video.

AnneFrank'sHouse

Anne Frank: The Whole Story is the story of Anne Frank which explores beyond what was written in her diary. This version, which was created for television, tells more than the usual story and introduces us to the Frank family before Anne is given her diary and also goes past the last diary entries into her time in Auschwitz and Birkenau. The concentration camp scenes are difficult to watch in this film which is considered very well done.

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

"As I write this review, this film is just finishing up, and I must say, this is one of the most moving accounts of Anne Frank that I've seen to date. We all know the story of Anne Frank, how it started, and what a complete tragic end of her life; and more importantly, what hope she brought to the world that killed her. This film is a remarkable, incredible retelling of the life of Anne Frank. ~~ James Hiller

Anne Frank Remembered

Anne Frank Remembered Movie Review (1995)

This documentary features Kenneth Branagh and Glenn Close.

AnneFrankRemembered

Anne Frank Remembered won an Academy Award for Oscar Winner for Best Documentary. This film is a documentary that is a "carefully detailed, thoughtful, emotional film." Included are a 1980 interview with Anne's father, Otto, the only surviving member of the Frank family; live footage of Anne watching a 1941 wedding; an interview with Peter Pepper who hid with the Franks; and, an interview with Hanneli Goslar who became Anne's friend at camp and who shares details of the last days of the girls. Considered the strongest interview is the one with Miep Gies, the employee who put her life on the line to help the Franks.

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

"Anne Frank so longed to be known around the world, dreaming of becoming a famous writer, and even began to prepare her diary for publication after the war. While she never lived to see that occur, her legacy and gift to the world, through her inspirational words, remains with us today. And this documentary serves as an excellent tribute to her short, short life." ~~ James Hiller

Anne Frank: The Life of a Young Girl

Biography - Anne Frank: The Life of a Young Girl (1998)

AnneFrankBiographyThis episode of A&E's award-winning Biography series was called Anne Frank: The Life of a Young Girl. It will take you back to the day Anne received the now famous read-and-white-checkered diary, Kitty. Shortly after receiving the diary, her Jewish family was forced into hiding in the secret annex. This documentary tells the story of Anne's life through black-and-white photos, footage from the war and interviews with Anne's father, her childhood friends, "Hello" Silverberg whom she had a crush on and Miep Gies. The latter who helped hide them and who in the end saved the diary. It also discusses why the writing in this diary has become an important part of the fight against prejudice and discrimination.

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

"This is a must for readers and admirers of the diary of Anne Frank. In effect, the DVD completes the story -- what was life like before the Frank family went into hiding and what became of the family members after the family was discovered. All that is missing is the name and motive of the person who reported the family to the Gestapo. There are many photos of the participants, photos I'd never seen. But beware: this is all but certain to clear out the tear ducts. As any reader of the diary knows, this is a great tragedy, the story of a great loss." ~~ Roger Long

Forget Me Not, The Anne Frank Story

Forget Me Not, The Anne Frank Story (1996)

"She was an oasis of innocence in a time of evil. A voice of reason in an age of insanity." ~~ From the cover

Anne Frank never made it to her 16th birthday but her writings continue to cause us to think. Her life is a tribute to the children who died during World War II, her diary is an inspiration for the future.

Forget Me Not is a study of that time in world history but also a reminder "of the triumphant power of the human spirit over evil." In this film, a young boy is enthralled by the neo-Nazi movement. When visiting a Holocaust museum he finds himself in a rather unusual library where he becomes a Jew and is transported to the streets of Amsterdam in the year 1944 where he has the opportunity to meet Anne Frank and learn about the word hero.

The Diary of Anne Frank (1959)

The Diary of Anne Frank Movie (1959)

Starring Millie Perkins, Shelley Winters, Josh Binswanger, Burt Reynolds and Geoffrey Wawro.

diaryofannefrankmovie

The Diary of Anne Frank is the 1959 movie version of the play. Anne is somewhat of a mystery and was perhaps played by an actress who was too old but the rest of the cast helps make the film work and together they help Anne grow into the young woman whose dreams will never be realized.

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

"Whatever the liberties taken by the screenplay writers, the film remains faithful to the core experiences related in Anne Frank's journal -- both to her inner emotions and conflicts with her family, and to her widening awareness of her family's place in the overall scheme of Nazi terror. The fact that this DVD transfers the film in such superior video and audio quality, and adds several excellent supplements (including a first-rate 90-minute documentary), makes this disc a fine addition to anyone's video collection." ~~ Paul Kesler

The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) Blu-ray Version

Sounds to me like upgrading to the blu-ray version is a good thing, if you are able.

DiaryofAnneFrankMovieAMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

"The Fox Studio Classic DVD release of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK was outstanding and featured both a commentary track and excellent extras. So is the blu-ray worth the upgrade? YES!

The transfer of the film is beautifully done and all of the extras from the DVD are still here, but the additional NEW material is worth the price of upgrading all by themselves. The section featuring Millie Perkins and Diane Baker sharing how they came to be picked for the film and their experiences working with director George Stevens moved me to tears. The Stevens World War II footage that he shot in 16mm Kodachrome has much more material then we have ever seen before. Steven's Jr. experiences on the film are very interesting and the section in which he shares letters that his dad sent and received are touching. Alfred Newman's composer sons (David and Thomas) discuss their dad's work on his magnificent score for the film.

If you are interested in classic films and/or Anne Frank then this blu-ray edition will be treasured addition to your library. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
! ~~ E. Hunter

More Information About the 1959 Version of The Diary of Anne Frank

The Diary of Anne Frank
George Stevens' 1959 Academy Award winning version of The Diary of Anne Frank was based on an award-winning play of the same name which, of course, was from the book that many of us know and love. The book was based on a diary written by a young Jewish girl who lived in hiding in Amsterdam during...

The Diary of Anne Frank BBC

diaryofannefrankbbc

There are many versions of The Diary of Anne Frank, this is another version produced by the BBC in true BBC fashion. The BBC worked with the estate to make this film as authentic as possible. Apparently, the estate is very reluctant to share the rights to Anne's diary so it does not happen very often. This one includes a carefully reconstructed house and a strong cast and is considered a "landmark piece of drama."

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

"I would highly recommend this latest adaptation of "The Diary of Anne Frank" to anyone who has an interest in the Holocaust, who has read and loved Anne Frank's "Diary of a Young Girl", and also to teachers of History, may we never forget. There is also a bonus feature which is an interview with Anne Frank's cousin, Buddy Elias." ~~ Z. Hayes
