Ever since we read The Diary of Anne Frank in school, I've been fascinated. Her story is so painfully bittersweet. My youngest has just finished learning some of the Jewish history in school and was recently asking if I knew who Anne Frank was which was a nice opportunity to refresh my memory. You have some wonderful resources listed!

What a lovely tribute to a very inspiring young girl. I'll forever remember her story after seeing a movie on TV depicting her life.

I remember being enthralled by the story of Anne Frank as a child. A wonderful lense.

Anne Frank is one of the characters I'll admire my whole life. Too bad so little number of people have read and know about her, her life and her experience. Too bad we take all we have for granted, forgetting how people like Anne have suffered and survived. Too bad we often consider ourselves unfortunate, forgetting other people went through much worse to have what we have nowadays.

Anne Frank is an excellent choice for a superhero and, young as she was, she has inspired millions. Her diary is canonical. This is a wonderful tribute to her too-short life.

Great lens. Thank you for sharing it with us. I have read the book, and I agree with you: she is a true superhero!

I remember reading The Diary of Anne Frank when I was in the seventh grade. I think it was the best book I could have read to make me understand what happened during WW II.

I visited the concentration camps in Dachau when I was a teenager, and have never forgotten the atrocities that people do to one another. I read Anne Frank when I was young, and this article has made me want to revisit the story. Thanks for the reminder!

Yes indee, she went through some harsh times and now she is a legend.
Because in her story we all see ourselves like a small part of Anne's life but in different circumstances.
It's interesting to see AnneFrank's house where she and her family were hiding.
You couldn't believe that they would have found her in such a place. Amsterdam has interesting houses full of these hide out places to see.

Definitely a noteworthy choice Julie, thank you for sharing these resources. I must see if I can find that BBC presentation here in Canada.
  • kiwinana71 Nov 28, 2011 @ 5:38 pm | delete
Yes I enjoyed reading her diary and would read it again. Thanks for sharing.

this is a wonderful tribute to Anne Frank. I read her diary many many years ago and was very touched by her story. speaking of super heroes I do actually have one from the same era in fact "Sugihara Chiune", a Japanese diplomat who saved thousands of Jews, but his story is rather unknown. Wrote a lens about him but didn't have much luck with visitors so it's still unknown :-) All the best to you

Great Lens honoring a great person. I have the fortune of having met one of her classmates and a cousin - both of whom miraculously survived themselves.

Squid Angel Blessing. We visited her house in Amsterdam.
  • d-artist Apr 24, 2010 @ 9:54 am | delete
no one can imagine what that young girl and her family went through...it should never of happened. I was suppose to try out for the movie and just could not bring myself to do it...Anne is a hero in my heart...a ~"Squid Angel Blessing"~
  • luvmyludwig Apr 20, 2010 @ 8:23 am | delete
The diary of Anne Frank is the one book that I remember having the most effect on me as a child. I read it in the fourth grade and I remember having so many questions...it's a book I need to read with my son.

It's fitting that the capcha word is "powerful"

What a wonderful tribute to Anne Frank. I read her Diary when I was in grade school and I remain touched by her story to this day. *blessed by an angel*

    Hello,
I read the diary of Anne Frank when I was a young girl and I was so moved by it, I cried at the end so hard. I never forgot her, it really brought home the harsh reality of it for me.
    Fantastic lens thanks for sharing!

Great lens, but you knew that :) Just wanted to remind you that this is featured on the The Netherlands Headquarters

It's now transformed into a lensography and I would love it if you could show your appreciation by featuring it here, or lensrolling it or something.

  • jgelien Oct 22, 2009 @ 2:22 am | delete
There are very few books I have re-read as many times as The Diary of Anne Frank. Each time I am moved and inspired all over again. Thank you for this lens on one of the most remarkable young women that ever lived.
  • Sep 19, 2009 @ 9:15 pm | delete
Excellent lens about a young girl who is indeed a superhero of all times. Peace and love, Darcie
  • AndyPo May 8, 2009 @ 6:36 am | delete
Great lens. I've been to Anne Frank's house a few times and Auschwitz. It is very thought provoking reminder of what is really quite recent history.

I remember reading The Diary of Anne Frank as a child. Now my 10 year old daughter wants to read it and I am not sure that she is ready for it. The question is should we shield our children now from the horrors that children in the past have faced and unfortunately do still face day to day? I think that she would find her story inspiring though - it is a difficult choice.....
  • MrLewisSmile Jan 20, 2009 @ 4:43 pm | delete
I'm currently living about 5 minutes from the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam. We went to the house/museum one day, and it was really eerie. It felt so real. It was like walking around a murder scene. But it was really amazing to see it. I would recommend everyone visit.

I have visited the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam. I would recommend everybody should visit. Truly awe inspiring!

This is a very tragic story that in a real sense was meant to be. The only solace is that the Nazi's were punished severely for their crimes.
  • nightbear Dec 28, 2008 @ 3:53 pm | delete
A brave and beautiful young woman that was murdered by a reprehensible monster. The world is better off because she was in it.

    such a touching story

I know I have responded to this lens before, but I happened upon it again this morning. I was especially touched by the countdown to her 80th birthday. The Holocaust seems so far away now almost to the second decade of the 21st century. Yet she wouldn't even be 80 yet. While that is certainly old in anyone's book, had the Holocaust not happened she could well still be a vital and active woman. It is so horrible. Can't give any more stars, except in my heart.
  • poddys Nov 7, 2008 @ 6:36 pm | delete
She was a pretty amazing person. In another life or time she might have led an ordinary life, but placed in the situation that she was, she did what she felt was necessary and as a result paid the ultimate price. Very nice lens Julie, 5*****

Students read the Diary of Anne Frank in High School but I don't think they truly understand her strength of character until they are older.
    Beautiful lens

Anne Frank got me through a lot of problems when I was a kid. She shared her woes and wonders with the imaginary Kitty, but I wrote mine to Anne herself. She inspired me and gave me hope.

    Thank you for this lens

Thank you for submitting Anne Frank to the SuperHero Group. She would also be a great contribution to the Grief & Loss Club, as an example of how someone was coping amazingly in the face of adversity.
