The life, marriage and tragic death of Anne Boleyn are an important part of English history. Not only did she play a role in a period of great change for the country, but she was also the mother of Elizabeth I.
Anne Boleyn is described differently in various accounts of her life. A pawn of her family's ambition. A scheming trollope, a witch, a seductress? Intelligent, charming and witty? Beautiful on the one hand, and unremarkable on the other.
Whatever she was in life, Anne was believed to be innocent of the crimes for which she was beheaded and the circumstances which led to her death surely make her a victim of her time.
The impact of her life on the politics and religion of a nation, and the complexity of her character make Anne Boleyn a woman of great interest whose story is fascinating to many, even now.

The Early Years
The exact year of Anne Boleyn's birth has long been disputed and due to the lack of records from that time we will never know conclusively. She was originally thought to have been born in 1507, however a letter written by Anne in 1514 suggests that she was older than the seven years she would have been if this was true. It is now thought by many that 1501 is a more accurate estimation of the year of her birth.

The Last Words of Anne Boleyn
The execution of Anne Boleyn was carried out on the 19th of May 1536 at 8am. She was the first English queen to be publicly executed.
The following account of Anne Boleyn's last words was made by the Tudor chronicler Edward Hall.
'Good Christian people, I am come hither to die, for according to the law, and by the law I am judged to die, and therefore I will speak nothing against it. I am come hither to accuse no man, nor to speak anything of that, whereof I am accused and condemned to die, but I pray God save the king and send him long to reign over you, for a gentler nor a more merciful prince was there never: and to me he was ever a good, a gentle and sovereign lord. And if any person will meddle of my cause, I require them to judge the best. And thus I take my leave of the world and of you all, and I heartily desire you all to pray for me. O Lord have mercy on me, to God I commend my soul.'
'To Jesus Christ I commend my soul; Lord Jesu receive my soul.'

- Poor girl, she wasn't much more than a child herself. 5* for reminding me what a revolting man Henry was.
