Anne Reidy

I am one of many Reidys so I am always AnneReidy, never just Anne.

I have worked in nonprofits for quite a few years ranging from a coin museum (Bonus point if you said "Oh, Numismatics!") to a university to a scholarship fund. I even studied nonprofits for a couple of years. Along the way I have noticed that people in a nonprofit are always very busy dealing with the crisis at hand. No one stops to say, "Gee, I wonder why we are always in crisis mode? Maybe we should do something about that."

People with a passion are at the hearts of all nonprofits, just as they are at Squidoo. People with a passion tell a great story. What's yours?

Among my favorite things are nonprofits that excel at telling their story. And baseball. And cooking. And I could keep going but on to some of my favorite blogs...

Activist!

The Activists are a pretty cool group! Doing good and making a big difference. Come on over to the group and say hi!

What is this Virtual contest?

You can go here!

The Squidoo Activists are running a virtual concert for charity.

Make a lens about your favorite band, donate the proceeds to charity and you could be in the running for LoTD and $100 for your favorite charity. What could be easier?
Make a Virtual Concert lens for charity!
Deadline for $100 prize is July 31

Charity Cheerleader

Just a little blog I run about how Squidoo works for nonprofits

Everyday Squidoo is doing great things for nonprofits - telling stories, raising awareness and donating money. The blog will highlight all of that good stuff as well as have announcements of what we have in th works.

Food Fun!

On the ground work at Sisters Hill Farm

I just finished an intense course for amateurs at the French Culinary Institute. I am trying to reconcile French haute cuisine with the current localvore/organic movement. I bought a share in a farm for the summer, Sister Hill Farm, so maybe I'll be a pro by summer's end! Food coops are the best - they help everyone involved. At minimal cost to me I will receive fresh produce once a week all summer, farmed organically, sustainably and locally. Good for you and for the environment! One of the reasons I choose them is because it is run by an order of nuns who treat the land they till with respect. Also, if I miss my share pick up one week, which will happen, they will give the food to those in need. That way I won't feel guilty about all the wasted fresh produce!

America Magazine

The National Catholic Weekly

The blog run by America Magazine touches on many topics - not just religion. All of the contributors always have thought provoking contributions.

One of the great things about being a sports fan in NYC is that no one lacks an opinion. The sport chatting can be as much fun as the sport watching.

Bitten - the Blog by Mark Bittman

NYTimes Food Blog

Mark Bittman writes for the NYTimes Dining section and hosts this blog. Always full of great, simple recipes, even if the ingredients are sometimes exotic. Always a great read because it is a reminder to keep things fresh and simple.

No Impact Man

Impossible for me!

I first learned about No Impact Man through a NYTimes article "A year without toilet paper." His project was to live with a significantly reduced carbon footprint for a whole year. Meant eating only local food, riding a bike everywhere and no use of paper or plastics. And living without electricity! He was inspired to try it after seeing An Inconvenient Truth. His blog makes you stop and think about how little things could make a huge difference in helping save the world.

Anne,
Thanks for recognizing my superhero in the recent contest. I am very thankful that more people are aware of Tim and the simple technology he has installed throughout the world to bring water to those in need. Because of Tim and ASCEND Alliance, over 10,000 water projects have been constructed and millions of lives have been saved. And because of Squidoo, nearly 150 people visited the page to read about it! Thanks so much for all you do!
