The Anne Frank House: a museum with a story

Ranked #5,049 in Culture & Society, #105,835 overall

The Secret Annex - 263 Prinsengracht St.

Miep Gies becomes an office worker in Otto Frank's pectin business due to Hitler's oppresive policies against the Jews, the Franks must go into hiding to survive. Miep Gies wrote a book ' Anne Frank Remembered' she recounts details of her assistance in helping keep the Franks, the Van Daans and Albert Dussel alive. In fact, this book is a brilliant piece of writing to accompany Anne Frank's diary. While Anne details life inside the Annex, we find out from Miep what she was doing outside. Together, they paint a complete picture of the horror and danger of their daily lives. And when Anne's diary stops before that faithful day, Miep's story continues.

The tree she writes about ..She loves nature

Dearest Kitty..

Writing in a diary is a really strange experience for someone like me. Not only because I've never written anything before, but also because it seems to me that later on neither I nor anyone else will be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year-old schoolgirl. (June 20, 1942) -Anne

Why having a diary can inspire writing like the case of Anne Frank she got a diary from her father on her 13 th birthday June 12 1942

July 5, 1942: Anne's older sister, Margot, receives a call-up notice to report for deportation to a forced-labor camp. The family goes into hiding the next day.

For the next 2 years Anne wrote in her diary she called dearest kitty it became her friend she wrote short stories ,poems ,she wrote about her life as she experienced it and ended up writing 5 notebooks

It was Miep Gies that went back after the arrest and gets Anne's Diary and gives it to Anne's father when he becomes free he was the only survivor from the secret annex

I don't want to live in vain like most people. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people...

even those I've never met.I want to go on living even after my death! (April 5, 1944)

Thanks for sharing this information. I read Anne Franks's diary when I was young but I've never read Anne Frank Remembered. Sounds interesting.

As a young reader I was inspired by Anne Frank's story. Later in life I visited the "Anne Frank House" with my family. It was a sobering and memorable visit that made history come to life for me.

We had the opportunity to visit Anne Frank's house this summer and were quite impressed by the house and the museum. We actually spent a lot of time there. There was a lot to read. Your lens is well done & blessed by a SquidAngel. (You won't forget to change that default title on your guestbook, will you?)

Wonderful topic for a lens. I first read The Diary of Ann Frank when I was a young girl, about the age she was at the time she wrote her memoirs. I had a great impact on me.

I did not know about Miep Gies' book. Anne's is such a tragic story. May it never happen again.

I am inspired by Anne Frank -- we walked by the Anne Frank house, but didn't have an opportunity to tour it.

Anne the writer

Anne was all about writing, the diary inspired her to write, if she would have lived she would have been one of the ones that helps humanity with her writing ..Oh yea she did that didn't she?! she was one of the best writers even now she inspires so many of us, she is my hero what happened to her and so many many other children how sad but what she left us within our hearts after you get to know her is not sad I am so glad I read her books when you read what she had to say in her thoughts she was very opened minded for being so young ..

Start your own journal and leave it for your grandkids, write your own bio ,write about your everyday life write about what you love write song lyrics or draw nature to add to your poems or stories draw what you like just like Anne Frank when she wrote Dearest Kitty.. she expressed herself in paper in all kinds of ways she was very creative in her diary, notebooks and journals I am glad she left her writing behind.. she inspired so many others through books, movies and this lens is a way to say thank you for inspiring us.I am sure where you are right now has brought back your smile and your beautiful spirit

Important!

I've asked myself again and again whether it wouldn't have been better if we hadn't gone into hiding, if we were dead now and didn't have to go through this misery, especially so that the others could be spared the burden. But we all shrink from this thought. We still love life, we haven't yet forgotten the voice of nature, and we keep hoping, hoping for . . . everything. (May 26, 1944)
