Arizona Legislature Takes the Lead in Backing Self-Defense

Several Measures Signed By The Governor

Arizona Legislature Takes The Lead In Backing Self-Defense

The Arizona Senate passed three important self-defense bills in a session that lasted into the early morning hours.... First, SB 1113 enables law-abiding Right-to-Carry permit holders to carry firearms for self-defense in restaurants. This NRA-backed bill passed by an overwhelming, bi-partisan majority of 19-8 and was signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer's (R0.

..."Arizonans now have the ability to defend themselves and their families from criminal attack in restaurants," said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox.....

Second, SB 1168 (Signed by the Governor 7/13/09) Original bill was amended and replaced with the language of HB 2474, preventing any private or public employer, property owner, etc. from banning any person from keeping a firearm in a locked vehicle in a parking area on the property, with specific, limited exceptions.

Third, SB 1243 (Signed by the Governor 7/13/09) Establishes a justification defense for referring to, showing, or grasping a firearm in a defensive manner when confronted with physical or deadly force.

2, 4, 6, 8. Which One Do You Appreciate? Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum

By: Randall Graham

Article Source: http://www.collectibles-articles.com

Randall Graham is an internet marketer and author and fan of history. He is also a co-author of the blog, "The Non-Smoking Gun". Reenactors, history buffs and gun fanciers will find authentic non-firing, black powder and blank-firing replicas of historic and classic firearms of the American Revolution, Civil War, Old West, both World Wars and the 20th Century at gunsofold.com. Other items of interest include Old West badges, Civil War and World War reenactor gear, holsters and other leather goods.

2, 4, 6, 8. Which One Do You Appreciate? Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum
By: Randall Graham

The famous Smith & Wesson original .357 Magnum Revolver was developed
primarily for use by law enforcement personnel. The first registered
Magnum was presented to the FBI's J. Edgar Hoover. In 1935,
at the height of the Great Depression, Smith & Wesson began production
of the .357, even though they feared they would have a lackluster
response to the pistol's introduction, because of the high
production cost which had to be passed on to buyers. The Magnum was
much more expensive than other pistols of its day. The economic
restraint of the Depression didn't help. For these reasons, their
original plans called for a limited production run.

Thoughts Of The Day

Wear short sleeves to support your right to bare arms.

Guns have two enemies--rust and politicians.

If armor-piercing bullets are outlawed, only outlaws will have armor-piercing bullets.

The Second Amendment Incorporated

Although Heller vs Washington DC (2008) declared that The 2nd Admendment is indeed an individual right tied to the natural right of self-defense, it was only applicable to the Federal level until today. In a ruling of Nordyke vs King, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco incorporated The 2nd Admendment against the states and local governments.

Although it is a landmark rulling, you may not find it on the front page of major news organizations because it is pro Second Admendment. The Bill of Rights has 10 Admendment and we are obligated to support all 10 and not just the one that we agree with. Below are links to a few reports on this important ruling.

Green Beret

80-yr-old retired Green Beret shoots intruder

Subject: Green Beret retiree shoots Intruder

Retired Green Beret Gets Court Martial after Shooting Intruder.

The PC Free Zone is reporting that an 80-year-old retired Green Beret has been tried by his peers after shooting an intruder in his Knoxville, Tennessee home. He is the oldest member of Chapter XXXIII of the Special Forces
Association.

BREVARD,
Jan. 19, 2008 Retired Army Green Beret Smokey Taylor got his court martial this weekend and came away feeling good about it.

Taylor, at age 80 the oldest member of Chapter XXXIII of the Special Forces Association, was on trial by his peers under the charge of failing to use a weapon of sufficient caliber in the shooting of an intruder at his home in Knoxville, TN, in December.

The entire affair, of course, was very much tongue in cheek. Taylor had been awakened in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, 2007, when an intruder broke into his home. He investigated the noises with one of his many
weapons in hand. When the intruder threatened him with a knife, Taylor warned him, then brought his ..22 caliber pistol to bear and shot him right between the eyes. That boy had the hardest head I've ever seen, Taylor said after his trial. The bullet bounced right off. The impact knocked the would-be thief down momentarily.
He crawled out of the room then got up and ran out the door and down the street. Knoxville police apprehended him a few blocks away and he now awaits trial in the Knox County jail.

The charges against Taylor were considered to be serious. He is a retired Special Forces Weapons Sergeant with extensive combat experience during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.

Charges were brought against him under the premise that he should have saved the county and taxpayers the expense of a trial, said Chapter XXXIII President Bill Long of Asheville. He could have used a .45 or .38. The .22 just wasn't big enough to get the job done.

Taylor's defense attorney, another retired Weapons Sergeant, disagreed. He said Taylor had done the right thing in choosing to arm himself with a ..22. If he'd used a .45 or something like that the round would have gone right through the perpetrator , the wall, the neighbors wall and possibly injured some innocent child asleep in its bed, he said. I believe the evidence shows that Smokey Taylor exercised excellent judgment in his choice of weapons. He did nothing wrong, and clearly remains to this day an excellent weapons man.

Counsel for the defense then floated a theory as to why the bullet bounced off the perps forehead. He was victimized by old ammunition, he said, just as he was in Korea and again in Vietnam, when his units were issued ammo left over from World War II. Taylor said nothing in his own defense, choosing instead to allow his peers to debate the matter. After the trial he said the ammunition was indeed old and added the new information that the perp had soiled his pants as he crawled out of the house.

I would have had an even worse mess to clean up if it had gone through his forehead, Taylor said. It was good for both of us that it didn't.

Following testimony from both sides, Taylor was acquitted of the charges and was given a round of applause.

Meanwhile, back in Knox County, the word is out: Don't go messing with SmokeyTaylor. He just bought a whole bunch of fresh ammo.

Updates From the States--Montana Passes Bold Gun-Rights Bill

HB 228 is awaiting the Governor's signature

Monday, April 20, 2009

The Montana Shooting Sports Association is supporting HB 228 and wants the Legislature to pass this bill. The National Rifle Association also endorses it.

UPDATE April 7: The conference committee decided to keep Montana's existing permit system for carrying concealed guns. (It went along with the March 30 action by the Senate Judiciary Committee.) The Shooting Association's Marbut says even so, enough provisions of HB 228 got passed by both chambers, it's still a victory for gun-rights advocates -- making it easier to use a gun against people who act threatening, without being hassled later by cops and prosecutors.

UPDATE April 20: The Bill has been passed by the Montana Legislators and is awaiting signing by the Governor.

Sanderson Captures Rapid Fire Gold in Beijing

Keith Sanderson (San Antonio, Texas), a 2008 Olympian, claimed the gold medal in the Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event at the 2009 ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup in Beijing today. Sanderson won the gold on the same range where he finished in fifth place at the 2008 Olympic Games last August in the same event.

Sanderson entered the final round in first place after shooting a match score of 584 points and maintained his lead through the final to finish on top of the podium after firing 196.5 points in the final, finishing with an overall score of 780.5 points.

2009 Rifle/Pistol National Junior Olympic Championships Winners

Over 300 of the nation's best junior rifle and pistol shooters gathered at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. April 3-19 to compete for National Junior Olympic (JO) titles. The 2009 USA Shooting Rifle/Pistol National Junior Olympic Championships was an exciting 17-day event that began with the rifle competition and concluded with the pistol events.

Junior shooters from all over the United States competed in nine out of the 10 rifle/pistol events that are contested at the Olympic Games. Men's Rapid Fire Pistol is the only Olympic event that is not fired at the JOs, but the Junior Sport Pistol event for both men and women will likely be included in the competition schedule for the 2010 National Junior Olympic Championships.

Michael McPhail Wins Bronze in Prone at Beijing World Cup

Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wis.) claimed the second medal of the 2009 ISSF World Cup season for the U.S. today by taking home the bronze medal in the Men's 50m Prone Rifle event at the ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup in Beijing, China.

McPhail, a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), entered the final in seventh place with a match score of 594 points and fired the highest final score of 104.7 to climb all the way to third place, finishing with a total of 698.7 points and only missing the silver by one tenth of a point.

Joke Of The Day

Guns, Doctors, and Lawyers

Doctors
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000..

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.

(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S.. Dept of
Health and Human Services.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Now think about this:

Guns
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million)

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is
1,500.

(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.

Statistics courtesy of FBI

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

Brady Campaign And Lautenberg Unite To Mislead And Control--Again

S 843 Introduced This Week

This week, in a typically misleading move designed to bolster their political agenda rather than reduce violent crime, the Brady Campaign released a report calling for background checks on "all gun sales in America, including at gun shows." The Brady report was intentionally designed to correspond with, and bolster, a "gun show loophole" bill (S. 843) introduced this week by fanatical anti-gun Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ). In fact, the Brady report was released at the press conference Lautenberg held earlier this week.

Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign, said in the group's press release, "We can do this. It will have no impact on any law-abiding gun owner in the country." Of course, that is absolutely false-the proposal will ONLY impact law-abiding gun owners, including any law-abiding person selling a firearm to a law-abiding buyer. Does Helmke really think that criminals, drug cartel members, and violent gang thugs are going to start legally purchasing firearms and submitting to a background check? Law-breakers, by definition, break the law. They are criminals; they are predatory, they operate outside of the law. You know that, we know that, Lautenberg knows that, even Helmke knows that.

This is Why I Carry A Gun

A Recent Craig's List Ad

To the Guy Who Mugged Me Downtown (Downtown, Savannah)

Date: 2 009-01-06, 3:43AM EST

I was the white guy with the black Burrberry jacket that you demanded I hand over shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I hope you somehow come across this message. I'd like to apologize.

I didn't expect you to crap your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. Truth is, I was wearing the jacket for a reason that evening, and it wasn't that cold outside. You see, my girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber 1911 .45 ACP pistol for Christmas, and we had just picked up a shoulder holster for it that evening. Beautiful pistol, eh? It's a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, isn't it?

I know it probably wasn't a great deal of fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge flopping about in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse since you also ended up leaving your shoes, cellphone, and wallet with me. I couldn't have you calling up any of your buddies to come help you try to mug us again. I took the liberty of calling your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, and explaining to her your situation. I also bought myself some gas on your card. I gave your shoes to one of the homeless guys over by Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all of the cash in your wallet, then I threw the wallet itself in a dumpster.

I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell. They'll be on your bill in case you'd like to know which ones. Alltel recently shut down the line, and I've only had the phone for a little over a day now, so I don't know what's going on with that. I hope they haven't permanently cut off your service. I was about to make some threatening phone calls to the DA's office with it. Oh well.

So, about your pants. I know that I was a little rough on you when you did this whole attempted mugging thing, so I'd like to make it up to you. I'm sure you've already washed your pants, so I'd like to help you out. I'd like to reimburse you for the detergent you used on the pants. What brand did you use, and was it liquid or powder? I'd also like to apologize for not killing you and instead making you walk back home humiliated. I'm hoping that you'll reconsider your choice of path in life. Next time you might not be so lucky. If you read this message, email me and we'll do lunch and laundry. Peace!

Alex

People Ask Why?

Why I Carry A Gun

My old grandpa said to me son,' there comes a time in every man's life
when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's
when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'.

I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the
world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating
myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and
not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a
cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the
ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am
inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful
to me.

Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the
crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to
take an ass whoopin'.

Should You Be Clinging To Your Gun?

Beware of "Common Sense" Measures

An article from the Gilmer County, Ga. Times Courier by Becky Antworth

You may recall the surge in gun sales last Fall surrounding Barack Obama's election. Purchases and permit requests shot up 20 percent. Stores across the county set six-figure sales records on Nov 4--only to break them on Nov 5. Dallas sold over $300,000 in merchandise in the three days after Election Day. Colorado set a state record--1,500 new owners in a single day.

Buy 'em while you can, people said. President Obama plus a Democratic Congress signaled a gun rights disaster waiting to happen.

So four months after the election, I wondered what the feeling was among gun enthusiasts. Were they still stocking up? Had store owners seen any signs the Second Amendment was about to be frisked?

See the entire article here: TimesCourier

Just remember what the real issue is. Any why defending it is more than "common sense".

Another Assault Weapons Gun Ban?

Friday, April 10, 2009

Obama Wants Gun Bans
Never mind that the Supreme Court recently declared that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms.

The Obama administration plans to reinstate the Clinton administration ban on so-called "assault weapons" that expired in 2004 under the ban's sunset provision. They have other gun controls measures in mind as well.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters on February 25.

Holder said that re-banning "assault weapons" would not only be good for America, it would help Mexico, which is currently plagued by gun violence among drug cartels.

Holder neglected to explain why American freedom should be limited at the request of a foreign nation. Most glaringly, he did not explain how the federal government, utterly unable to stop immigrants or drugs from freely crossing the border, could somehow be successful in stopping weapons from doing so.
