Anti-Aging Skin Care and Anti-Aging Strategies for Beautiful Younger Looking Skin
When does our skin start to age? It is different in each individual case. However, generally, already in our mid 20s skin's ability to retain water starts to decrease. Oxygen level in the skin goes down by approximately 1/4. As a result, skin slowly starts to lose its energy and healthy glow. However, it is too early to start using intensive anti-ageing skin care.
More serious signs of aging appear in our 30s. That is when in adition to the processes described above, our skin starts to produce less collagene. This causes formation of mimic wrinkles. Such wrinkles are deeper than just dry lines and are harder to treat and get rid of. At this age, you can also notice that you have a duller complexion or/and that your skin is becoming more sensitive.
Usually anti-aging products are intended for women after 30. Goal of such products is to help women slow down the processs of aging or to reverse certain signs of aging.
In your 40s, you have to correct such signs of aging as loss of collagene, loss of elasticity and age spots. There are special intensive anti-aging products and anti-aging treatments that can be very effective.
See below in more detail how you can prevent early aging in your 20s, treat first signs of aging in your 30s and have more youthful skin in your 40s and 50s.

Do you need to use anti-aging products in mid-20s?
In your mid-twenties you will notice some changes in your skin but it is too early for intensive anti-aging skin care

In our mid- late 20s skin starts to lose its ability to retain water. By the mid/late 20s dry lines can start to appear. However, they are quite easy to treat by selecting and regularly using an effective moisturizer. According to skin experts, starting from the mid - late 20s there is 1/4 less oxygen in our blood and that is why less vital oxygen gets transported to the skin cells. Skin can start to loose its energy, healthy color and glow.
Remember, to prevent premature aging you need to use UV protection every day. Studies show that 80% of skin's aging happens due to UV damage. The right anti aging skin care can help you to avoid this damage.
As a result of the recent research, several products combining achievement of DNA and Nanotechnologies have been developed and are available on the market. Some of these products, such as Juvedical from Juvena (see below), can be used starting in your 20s.

Spotlight on products based on DNA and Nanotechnologies
Technology:In order for skin cells to function and to regenerate well, they need:
1. best possible environment
2. DNA that functions well
DNA Nanotechnology allows to transport active substances directly into the cell nucleus, so that your skin cells have everything necessary for optimum renewal and functioning.
Juvedical anti-aging line from Swiss cosmetic company Juvena is based on DNA Nanotechnology.
We inquired at Juvena for what age they recommend Juvedical Line and received an answer that this line can be used at any age to achive "visibly better skin".
Another product also uses DNA technology to provide your skin with the best anti-aging care, but they approach it from a different aspect. Dermagenetics will custom-make a cream for you after you provide the necessary information about your skin by filling out a special booklet and using a kit for an "At-Home Skin DNA Test".
Dermagenetics, recommends to start using DNA UltraCustom Skin Care to protect skin cells' DNA early on: "but it is not recommended for children under the age of 13".

Anti-aging ingredients in Anti-aging skin care products

In 30s our skin starts to produce less collagene which causes formation of mimic wrinkles. Those are deeper than just dry lines and are harder to get rid of. Besides cells' turnover in the skin slows down. This results in a dull tired complexion. Some other factors contribute to all of the symptoms mentioned above include stress, free radicals, bad diet, not enough excercise or sleep etc.
Look for anti-aging skincare products that will provide the following
- moisturize and prevent dehydration
- improve radiance
- help cells turnover
- protect agains free radicals
- protect agains UV light
The following ingredients will deliver the effects mentioned above:
Hyaluronic Acid is considered nowadays a wonder moisturizer. It deeply hydrates the skin, plupmps it up, softens any existing lines.
Vitamin C - has amazing antioxidant properties it also helps cells' turnover and has light bleaching properties - so your skin looks more even, refreshed and energized. It is also believed to help reverse sun damage.
Glucosamine - is an amino sugar that is necessary for synthesis of lipids and proteins. It speeds up cell turnover and gives you smoother complexion and a radiant glow
Vitamins C and E - protect again free radicals. Vitamin E helps the skin to balance its hydration and improves skin's elasticity

In the 40s skin becomes drier, thinner and as a result more fragile and susceptible to formation of wrinkles and damage by free radicals. Also due to photoaging some spots, discoloration or freckles may develop making the complexion uneven.
To prevent and treat these age related symptoms you need to look for products with the following properties:
- fighting loss of collagen and treating fine lines
- fighting uneven or dull complexion
- lightening age spots and preventing appearance of new ones
- keeping skin moisturized
Look for the following ingredients:
Retinol - increases cells' turnover, exfoliates, currently the only ingredients that showed effective reduction of wrinkles
Salicylic Acid - is a peeling agent that helps your skin to renew
Pro-Xylane-works at the epidermal-dermal junction to promote skin's youth, encourages intercellular communication, the key to a harmonious metabolism in the skin
Coenzym Q 10 - not only has antioxidant properties but also can provide important protection against UVA caused depletion of cell membrane
Creatine- organic acid that occurs naturally in our body. Creatine production decreases with age and becomes one of the causes of dry, dull skin. Creatine has shown to be an effective anti-aging ingredient

Skin Care Products with Retinol
Currently Retinol is believed to be one of the most effective anti-aging ingredients
Remember: you have to use SPF protection when using a retinol containing skin care product.
Note: Topical Retinol has also shown to cause irritation and increased dryness in some women.
Anti-Aging Products for Women Over 50
Your skin as well as your whole organism are influenced by menapause
The decreased production of estrogen and progesterone will cause your skin to become dryer, thinner and more sensitive. It is believed that decreasing estrogen levels can cause increased collagen break down and as a result more wrinkles, loss of firmness and sagging. That is, unfortunately, the bad news. But the good news is that there is a lot that can be done about it.
Your goals are
- prevent dryness and balance your skin
- prevent and fight wrinkles
- counteract the effects of decreased estrogen levels
There are special topical products with estrogen that can help counteract the effects of menopause related estrogen decrease. Some brands also developed skin care products with phytohormones that are believed to be effective and have less side-effects.
According to Elle (Germany, Oc 07) some of the commonly used phytohormones are the following
- Phytohormone from soy and hop extracts
- Auxin - a growth-regulating substance
- Lignan - an estrogen-like chemical which also has anti-oxidant properties
- Isoflavone- type of phytoestrogen
Use of skin care with Phytohormones is considered by some sources controversial. That is why I encourage my readers to seek out as much information as they can about such products, and to consult a doctor who is an expert in this area.

Topical Products with Botox-like Effect
Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle 1 fl oz (30 ml)
Amazon Price: $79.00 (as of 02/13/2012)![]()
Before you resort to Botox injections you may want to try out skin care products that "relax" and diminish appearance of facial expression lines. Such products are based on wrinkle relaxing and anti-aging peptides.
Want to know more about how it works? Some of Botox-like products (i.e. PeterThomasRoth un-wrinkle line) use a chemical called syn-ake. Syn-ake is manufactured by a Swiss company called Pentapharm who claim that syn-ake penetrates skin to block the nerve receptors and this way brings down the muscle movement.
In fact, Syn-ake is modeled on the paralizing snake venom of a southeast Asian temple viper.
